(down mungo!) Meeting her in West End on Saturday night, so who can recommend a quality place to eat out / go drinking at in the West End? Oh man, that's a loaded question. You can pick from about 100 types of cuisine, eat at a cost of between 2 pounds and 20,000, and then pick from thousands of clubs.
It'd probably help if you expressed a preference. Do you want to go high end cuisine, like Gordon ramsay's, decent chain, like Conran's, down to earth but romatic italian, or what?
Also, whereabouts in the West End are you meeting? Most good reataurants will be booked up already.

. Another good one in Soho is "Soho spice" if you fancy a Ruby, I can definately reccomend that 
I had one of my worst meals ever at Soho Spice. We wre kept waiting in the doorway for an hour after our table was supposed to be delivered, waiter managed to hit my wife on the head with the wine bottle, food not great, and not cheap either.
There are an awful lot of restaurants in London that try to be chic, but just manage expensive and poor.

If you want to look good ,amazing food in a lively atmosphere top of the charts at mom is probably Hakkasan 0207 927 7000..
If she is easily impressionable & likes seafood...blackened misu cod at Nobu 0207 447 4747 is a must with well presented sushi.From Nobu you can walk straight into the Met bar which is possibly the b/s centre of London.

Mr T, I've got the 2002 London Restaurant Diary in front of me.
Tell me the restaurant and I'll tell you the address, phone number, sample menu and average cost per head.
My recommendation is Christopher's The American Grill just off Covent Garden opposite the Lyceum Theatre.

Ok more info (and cheers for the names so far):
Food - 'Modern European' - playing safe as not sure of her specific dietary requirements, and I don't consider a curry particularly romantic
sushi is a possiblilty though..
Price - I can run to about 150 quid on dinner / wine (she'd better realise thats half a set of rear tyres!!)
Atmosphere - want her to feel special and the place to be classy, but dont want to feel intimidated by uber poshness.. Not too busy (ie. not Belgos....), but not so deathly quiet I feel I have to talk non stop crap...
I recognise some of the places you mention as I've eaten in town quite a bit, but I'm dammed if I can remember the names of the places half the time, and I'd like the security of having it booked!

I only said they'l likely tell you to get stuffed, not definitely.
The Met bar is nothing to do with Nobu, despite being in the same building. The Nobu staff can try and get you in, but it's not often possible.
Same with Asia de Cuba and the Light Bar.
Nobu's nice, but I prefer Ubon. Nicer service and atmosphere. Nobu is full of tourists nowadays.
Nicest restaurants out west? Ramsay's at Claridges, Ramsay's in Fulham, Petrus, Le Gavroche.
Ivy's still nice too, but not haf as good as before Belgo bought it.
Most of the fashionable one's I've been to recently I've not enjoyed much. Cecconi's, Locanda Locatelli etc. were only average, and a bit more money than they were worth. Hated Asia de Cuba.
Fashionable's great if you want to be seen, but it's not the best place necessarily for a romantic night out.
To be honest, the whole experience at a fashionable restaurant is often a bit wanky. People going there to be seen, terrible service, better, I think, to pick somewhere very special, and do it less often.
