According to the Mirror a 21 year old borrowed his dad's Porsche & is getting prosecuted, but NOT jailed for doing 150mph! Not sure what's more shocking, the reason given for 21 year not going to prison or the fact that the police Skoda managed to keep up!

Good. It's entirely correct that speed alone should not form the basis of a Dangerous Driving conviction.

I don't think you should be jailed for driving at those speeds, especially if the conditions are good.

And as for Mary "Our jaws dropped at this case" Williams, seriously honey, get a hobby.

I think that's the right decision, although I do wonder how "short" the straight was for a Boxster to reach 150mph...

""If he'd have had an accident at that sort of speed it would almost certainly have been fatal for him or anyone else involved."

Yes, yes, but he didn't so there. Nerr.

agree to some extent, point being that 150 in say a 911 is safer than 95 is in a clapped out old nova saloon! i think most would agree - tho maybe not the law.

BUT in this case he didnt even have insurance, i think the book should have been thrown at him.

Tricky to call I reckon, but sense I think prevailed. Stil a bit of a penis for doing it with no insurance though, but we've all done stupid things, I'm glad the judge had her sensible hat on.

Hopefully this will count as a positive for the rest of us "normal" drivers, that there are people in authority that understand the difference between dangerous driving and speed, and how the correlation is massiveley misinterpreted by the majority.

For not having insurance he should dealt with in the severest manner. It's the worst offence of all in my book.

And if you fell off a motorbike at 70mph, you could argueably say the same, but that is perfectly legal.

I agree with everything said so far, 150mph in itself is not dangerous, as proven by the plod themselves last year.

Yes, a point often missed by blinkered ones.

Also, refreshing to see an intelligent rather than hysterical judge for a change.

He was lucky to be before a recorder rather than a magistrate. Soemone who could actually think about the charge did so and came to the logical conclusion that it was unwarranted.
But road safety campaigners blasted her decision. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said: "If driving at 150mph isn't dangerous driving we don't know what is."
Sorry, but if you are to believe that driving fast and driving fast alone is dangerous driving and don't know what else is; then you shouldn't be campainging for road safty.
BTW good decision from the judge for the driving part (common sense at last). Should of come down on him hard for not having insurance though.

Am tempted to agree with the outcome of this, but having said that, this isn't an experienced Porsche OWNER doing 150mph, it's a 21-year-old doing 150 in a car that wasn't his. That, to me, makes it a bit more serious.
Admittedly I don't know his driving history, but there can't be many 21-year-olds that are used to speeds like that and would know what to do if things got out of shape.

Entirely agree. Knobends who hit the press and public conscience driving like this without insurance are NOT going to do those of us any good who would legitimately like not to be done for the odd occasion we stray over 70 in appropriate conditions, in safety and with other road users protected (in terms of both physical and financial health!).

if the road conditions were clear then i dont think it was dangerous driving, however he didnt have insurance so i definatly think he should get 6 points for that, i am not much older than him and i have to pay an extortionate premium to drive a Tvr if he wants to drive quickly and safely then thats fine by me but really he should be covered to drive the car.
