THE question : Most reliable EVERYDAY supercar?

I have been thinking of chucking in my motor reecntly : an imported Impreza WRX.

I really want something more potent, another very sporty motor, but have been torn between companies.

I want the style and flair of the italian thoroughbreds with the gruff of the British motor, aka TVR. And don't forget the real luxury!

Then again, I want reliability for handing over my £s. I know this is un-heard of for the type of motor I want. But is it?? Are we all looking at the wrong motors?

I'm honestly now thinking of getting a nice XKR. Power due to the supercharger, reliability as its a Jag, luxury that speaks for itself, and also it can be used daily.

Opinions people???

IMO If reliability is one of your key concerns, then it has to be Jap or German..

Depending on your budget, but I'd want to look at Porkers, BMW M5s, RS4s, Skylines etc..

I don't know what your budget is Raks but if you want both reliability and to regularly mash the throttle I'd suggest trying a 911.

Looking value wise against an XKR look at a C4S (this model includes the turbo brakes and 4WD system). If you can go the whole hog look at a turbo.

Edited to say for the used performance bargain of the decade look out for a 993 turbo with about 40k miles and a FPSH.

What do you mean by reliable? Do ya get mad if the indicators go wrong? If the aircon doesn't always blow cold? Or does reliable just mean that you don't want the engine going dead occasionally?

I actually wanted to stay away from turbo'ed vehicles. a. had one already b. two many issues about warming c. also increased maintenance costs

I did forget one thing though, this car has to be sub £20-25k!!!

In that price range, wanting reliability I'd take a look at some of the following german used cars:

Early porsche Boxster.
C43AMG merc.
One of the BMW M-series cars.

If I was more interested in raw performance I'd be looking at some of the TVR Cerberas on offer and the later Griffs.

Have you thought about a Jap Import Supra?
An RX-7?
A Skyline?

All three of these should be available within budget, have a rep for reliability (although the RX-7s rotor tips have an expected life of 65000 miles, apart from that its pretty sound), and go like stink.

Problem is that they are all Turbos... Cant think of any Japanese "supercars" with N/A engines...

TVR Cerbie with full history ,4.5 not as thrashy as early 4.2's , 420bhp on tap , 0 - 60 3.9 ,190 top end , interior interesting. No prob's using mine daily so far (touch wood)

was thinking about the Cerbera actually. Problem is, I thought they have a few build quality issues as well as minor engine issues. I'm not technically minded, so even these niggles would mean a trip to the local garage.

Just to add - NSX? Aren't they turbo charged??

NS-X's run 3.0 VTEC V6, 276bhp, very reliable. Latterly 3.2 VTEC V6. Not a turbo in site - not the Honda way...

Sorry but that's crap. I've never had even a spot of trouble. The only problems they have had (and it is only on older models) was with the immobiliser, funnily enough the same problem I had with my Cerbera.
