After a quick lunchtime discussion about previous Jobs, (brought on by the PC world thread) we went on to the best way to Quit.

When I left Big Blue it went something like this..

Annual Review time

I was a bit unhappy with what my staff manager was saying as it did not reflect any of my review. (ie. She just did not like me) also as I was working on some classified projects I count not discuss the work I was doing, (got right up her back) and she decided to give me a very low rating...

SM: Ok this rating is treated as a first verbal warning
Drux: I don’t accept it.
SM: Sorry?
Drux: I don’t accept it you verbal warning
SM: Ok then this is treated as a second verbal warning
Drux: I don’t accept that either.
SM: If you continue like this I will make it a written warning.
Drux: Then I Resign.
SM: Ok then it’s a Written Warning
Drux: I Resign with effect immediately

I then got up left the room, left the building and went home. Did not go back. I under stand from some friends that the fall out was quite spectacular.

Best move I ever made

If you'd wanted, there are quite a few things you could have done legally.
They have to give you notice that they are going to give you a warning, so that you can bring along a representative/colleague with you to the meeting.
You could then go down the constructive dismissal/unfair dismissal route...

Many years ago, a guy was working on some very tricky negotiations with Rover Group to take over some land. He was leading the negotiations and pulling every trick in the book to get the price down. I can't remember whether he resigned or took early retirement.

We were most surprised when he turned up for work the next Monday. Not half as surprised as when he sat down at the negotiating table.
On the Rover side...

Worked as a drayman

Always Pi55ed.

Turned up late for a run one morning been on the the night before
Hair of the dog as soon as I got in the cab of the truck - I wasn't the driver

Done a few deliveries - had a pint at each one, and a couple of bottles of Holsten

The driver pulled up at the next pub, right next to the cellar, landlord had it open - we were late
Missed my footing on step getting out of cab and fell, right down the cellar broke my arm.

Boss wasn't very sympathetic when he found out I was pi55ed.

Had a disagreement with my boss over the fact he was dipping into my pay packet.
Also other things, he was generally being a total dick.
So after taking the piss outa him for once, he called me into the office to give me a "written verbal warning"?? I asked him what he expected me to do about it, and he said he expected me to sign it.
I told him to roll it up in a tight tube, and shove it up his arse. Really i did.
Then i clocked out and went home.
Heard nothing more about it.

All you have to do is stick a pair of underpants on your head and a couple of pencils up your nostrils - make sure you don't have a commanding officer that is General Melchard first though!!!

Remember Quadrophenia - 'You can take this, this and this and shove it right up your arse'?

That was how I lost my first job at Homebase (as mentioned in the other thread), oh, and the items listed were paint pot, stanley knife and conifer!

Fond memories.

Entirely with you, did the same 2 weeks ago!! Only thing is, I'm working back there now. The MD has made me my own boss now, and mini-MD was put on sick leave!
Mini-MD is back today, and sniffing around my business again... We shall see

nope, the best way to quit your job is to take a "Voluntarty Seperation Package".

In Non American English that means

"Heres Some Money, sign this, now fcuk off"

If you're gonna go, might as well get paid for it

Worked in a really dodgy games console shop.

The owner (nice chap) went back to Singapore for a bit, leaving his younger brother (complete areshole) in charge - we did not get on.

Found a decent job, and was going to leave anyway.

However I made it a bit earlier than planned when an Environmental Health Officer came around, and I gleefully showed her all the dodgy chemicals, working practices and conditions that had been caefully hidden or disguised.

They were given a notice of closure (or something) on the spot

Cheers, Phil

One thing you should do, for comedy value if nothing else, is ask for a copy of your HR records after you leave.

A couple of jobs ago I requested mine and found a note from a director saying "Capt. Muppet should never be re-employed by this company or any other in the group."

This was four years ago and the vacancy for my replacement is still open...

When I left a job once I did something so devious that I can't believe that it was me.

I was having problems with the boss who was new and wanted me to leave so that he could bring his friendly Sales Manager in - but as I had been there over two years it was difficult for him so he was making life difficult for me. Anyway I found another job and resigned telling him that I had had enough of his bullying. I also let it slip to his PA that I was consulting a solicitor about constructive dismissal. She went and told him and by the end of the day I walked out with a month's salary and a tax free cheque for £2k.

So that's where the name came from then
