My Clio Cup will be ready to pick up on Monday... As long as my insurance company pulls their finger out and gets the cover note to me tomorrow!

Can't wait, so if anyone around the Reading/Oxford area sees a Cup being driven granny style it is me, running it in!!!

Yes good point. This may mean that to follow my advice you have to do over 1000 sensible miles first over Monday and Tuesday. But I suspect that your itching to do some driving in it.

Yep, running in will be fun .

At Renault they could not offer much information as to what to do. I was thinking up to 3500 for the first 1500 miles or so and then build it from there, but any suggestions welcome!

Hiya. Hope you've not nodded off yet. For sporty engines, I take the running in MORE gently at the beginning. 2500 RPM on cold max (if the gearing takes it) then 3000 max on motorway for roughly 5-600 miles (terribly long)and never above. Also take care not to strain the engine too low down in the revs ((you'll wreck the lower engine bearings). After that, very short (2-3 seconds) blasts to 4000 (1 or 2 per 100 miles), but keep the general cruising revs to 3500 for another 400 miles. Then build up cruising revs, with occasional 2-3 blasts to 80% of max revs for 200 miles. After that, rev the sh*t out of it at a constant 90% power for about an hour if possible. To loosen the engine. In 4th if necessary or hop over to Belgium: they don't intercept under 100 mph (160 kph)(except for dangerous driving) and can't be bothered to convey the fine abroad. I also do an early oil change after 2500 miles. This makes the running in slower (metal particles drained with oil) so less wear, but smoother. It's the occasional blasts that do the trick.

Don't forget the breaks:

Don't break harshly at all for first 100 miles

Don't break harshly from motorway speeds for first 1000 miles

whatever

What? At all?
That could have interesting consequences in a post-incident conversation with the police/insurance/whoever.

"Well you see, I am running it in..."

172 BHP in a small car like that - should be pretty quick - did you think about the V6 - hell of a lot more money though (26K) and you could buy a TVR for that price!! (No contest!!)
Will have to sort out a test drive for the missus.
Let us know how you go on monday
Cheers
