Armed police on UK Airlines !

Don't know if anyone else caught this today, that the government are going to introduce "armed" air marshals to fly undercover on UK airlines at some point in the near future !
Despite obvious reservations about given plod a free flights around the world and give him a bloody gun - what use to do think it will actually do ??
Security is up at airports - OK it's not impossible to smuggle something onboard. But if you close one terrorist route then another will open.
You can buy ground to air missles practically over the counter in the states (for hunting use only !) so what next .. BA flights carrying chaff and IR flares.

Looking at the likelihood of an incdent taking place...
Previously there was a very slim chance that there's a gun on board at all. Following the introduction of these officers, that possibility is now 100%
It is not unreasonable to assume that terrorists will use this knowledge, together with a plan to tackle the officer (using inside knowledge or a decoy to overcome any attempt at secrecy) and recover the weapon.
They needn't bother trying to smuggle a weapon on board at all.
Of course, it may take a few terrorists to succeed, and a few may die in the process, but these days that seems to be of a secondary worry to such people.
I think the security forces have not yet come to terms with the different angle of modern terrorism -- it's far more difficult to control/restrain/deter people who have no regard for their own lives.

Its got to be a good thing look at EL-AL every flight has a marshal on board and you never hear of them being hijacked even though they are the prefered target of all the Raghead terrorist groups.

They only talked about this on the first news reports though - all subsequent ones seemed to "drop" this info.

Some amusing stuff there. I actually strongly believe that civ aircraft should carry Chaffe and Flares. Why not ? Beats getting split in two at 30000 ft and having a very long and agonising fall to your doom.
The slow bullets is very amusing. If they were so alow as not to pierce the pressurised hull they'd be pretty bloody easy to catch or even catch with chopsticks if you were a bloody showoff. They are lookning at all the stun devices, ie mace ( abit of a pain for other passengers), mind you so is dying. Tazers (apparently they affect the satnav. They have this new gun that fires beanbags that can usually stun someone for a sec or two (Not long enough unfortuantely in a passenger fightback to decide who takes the front.
The best had to be the fact that the Rugby team took the bloke out and all had a dig..an effing dig ? I hate flying if some cant tried to open the door and I was close by when we'd wrestled him down I'd be having more than a dig I'd be Morris dancing on his head.
I think you just have to assume if you get hijacked nowadays that you are going to die. No reroute just death. If thats the case then you just all get together scream very loudly and then peg it up the front using one of those evil drinks trolleys as a battering ram and shield. We've all had our heads clipped by one when catching forty winks and it aint pleasant. It's a shame British Caledonian aren't still around they used to cook the hotdogs with the plastic wrapper on making them into quite a nifty short truncheon.

It's not just El Al that are shit hot, any flight in or out of Israel has fantatic security, done by people who take it seriously and have the brains to make instant decisions and interpretations of the answers you give them during the grilling, all about where you've been while in Israel, who you met, how many times you've been, where else in the world, etc etc not just the sullen miserable "did you pack this bag yourself" routine, to which you could answer "no it was packed by my tribe of african pigmies that live in the cellar and do all my meanial tasks" without getting a reaction.
As for the "slow bullets" I think its actually a combination of slower velocity and softer compound so that they flatten on impact, these have been used for years by armed patrols and sentries on Nuclear Submarines (imagine a round piercing a reactor space
) the problem is they don't strictly speaking comply to the Geneve Convention, as they have a very small entry wound but as they flatten the exit wound is likely to be half your back and include most vital organs.
