New approach! new rules for madcop!
Discussion
Hi Guys (and girls).
I have a new name. I changed my profile as a result of the circumstances that you are now well aware of. 'Randy' I accept your apology and wish you and your family a good Christmas and a happy New Year.
I understand that many of the people on this forum have strong personal views aout the law itself and in particular about how the public servants that are the gaurdians of the law, treat those that we are employed to serve.
The law is there for the benefit of all of the people in this country. It may not always be good law. I accept that. There is nothing I can personally do about what is either common law or statute. I can only inform you of what it is and how it is interpreted by both the Courts and the Police.
If you have a gripe about a particular law, then I am not the person to gripe at beacause of it. That would be your M.P.
I do not personally agree with quite a lot of the law that affects us. Much of it is written in haste to address a particular concern that is universally topical at the point the law is invoked (the law on firearms for instance0, which was a typically ill thought out knee jerk reaction which has had no effect on the criminal use of firearms.
If you have a gripe about how you were dealt with by the police or about the procedure that has been applied to you, then ask me questions about it. Take me to task even, but please do not start to get personal because I happen to be an easy and accessible target for your anger.
When I post on matters of the law, I always cross check them before hand with the text books so that I do not post information which is misleading or wrong.
If it is not quoted as law but as a personal opinion by me, then again, take me to task and I will try and defend my opinion. I accept that I am not always right (just most of te time
).
All I ever intended to acheive was to give those of you that have a real interest, the opportunity to understand how things actually work and how they can affect you if you come into contact with them (Police procedures and the courts)
The idea behind this is that forwarned is forearmed and therefore may allow you to avoid confrontation in the first place.
I have read the thread which was posted by Carzee about my departure. I have mailed him and a few others with the full reasons for me to take the decision to step back from PH. Having read the messages of support I have reconsidered. I thank all of you that have taken the trouble to do so and this is the reason that I have decided to return.
I do not ask that any of you who take the time to read my comments, change any attitude you may have about the Police and any other public service that you have to come into contact with. All I ask is that you try to understand another point of view, even if you do not agree with it.
I can only assure you that myself and the colleagues that I work with are doing our best to keep a lid on things at sometimes unbelievable pressure from both within and from outside the organisations of public services.
There are many within the services that are less competant than others. Some are blatently bad, but overall they have the public and that means 'you' at heart otherwise they would not do it!
I have decided to apply a few rules to the posts that become abusive (personally). I will not respond by making replys that lower myself to the particular tone of the abuse if it occurs (although I am quite capable of doing so). I will simply leave that thread without further comment.
I have to suffer abuse enough when I am at work and don't feel that I should have to deal with it through this forum too. Words spoken or written will never hurt me (like a punch in the gob might). I just don't need to deal with them in my time off.
If you have something to say to me that you would not say to my face, then please do not bother to print it because I will not be drawn into petty slanging matches on here.
Finally. I have several personal issues to deal with in the next few months and they will take a considerable amount of time to do so to the right end.
Please bare with me over this period as I will not have the time to spend such as I have done over the previous months.
Once again thanks for all the comments of support, many of which have touched me deeply.
Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year to everybody. Heres to even greater things in 2003.
Yours

WELCOME BACK
Let Champagne fall from the heavens, doors open and velvet robes part.
(not mine of course
) Glad you reconsidered. Have you and your family a fantastic Christmas

And I hope to read some more opinions from t'other side in the new year. Thats made my day that has!
Great to have you back Madcop. Hope you see fit to restore your former name at some point
Newbies will no doubt cause trouble again in the future as without some immersion in PH culture they will step over the line and offend. Could I ask all regulars to let me/the moderators know if that happens and we can 'ave a word in their shell like before too much trouble is caused. Sometimes it's not as malicious as it reads - it's just that people may misjudge the mood of the forums.
Let's police (pun intended
) the forums ourselves to ensure a continued high level of debate and above all respect for other contributors.

Welcome back Madcop! Good to know we can look forward to your wisdom in the new year.
(even thought the legal topics that you cover don't apply to me usually because of where I live, the advise regarding car control, defensive driving etc are always informative)
Merry Christmas
