The Sunday Times "Driving" section has a piece entitled "Rich Repairs", where the highest labour charges made by a garage are published. This week it was theturn of a MB main dealer charging £70.00/hour + VAT!

Sorry to sound like Victor Meldrew but hear goes: -

I just had my wifes IBIZA serviced at the notoriously unhelpful local main dealer for an outrageous and unbelievable £56.50/hour + VAT! (£66.39/hour)

Yep, that's £140.00 to changethe oil (parts & oil were £20.00)

Motorcycle City charge £57 an hour which is a bit of a piss take I think.

Its only set to get worse. On the new merc c-class you dont even get a dipstick on the diesel models. Soon even the most simple of tasks will require a [expensive] visit to the dealer!

On most new Mercs, the dipstick is behind the steering wheel. Oh no, now what have I said???

I've paid £65 an hour for the Lotus Factory Service Centre to do work on my car. I felt it was justified.

That was a while ago though - I think they may be £70 to £100 an hour now.

Top Gear said that the Lotus factory time is charged at £100/hour. With the overheads they must carry that is not bad at all!

Volvo main dealer i worked at charged £65 an hour.
Ill do it for £35....any takers?

whilst treking accross India a few years ago we had the oil and filters changed on a 70series Toyota,i forget the number of rupees but it worked out to about £1.25 for parts and labour(but i think it was probably cooking oil they put in the sump)
Oh,not vat either,which is nice!
