Insurance Comanies Arggggghhhhhhh.....
Discussion
What is it with these people.
My insurance is up for renewal on the 28 of this month, so a couple of weeks ago I started ringing round for quotes. They generally came in around the £400 mark, the cheapest before my renewal quote from MoreThan came through was £380 from EasyMoney, the Most expensive was RAC at £557. I also did a quote on the MoreThan website, which came back at £449.
So I have halfed my premiums, I'm happy, my Mum is happy, the Dog is happy. Cool
No.
MoreThan sent me my renewal quote through. Even with the envelope in my hand I expected it to be no more than about £500. Wrong. Opened the Envelope, £653
Surely some mistake?
So I phoned them. I was told, by a nice woman on the phone (I must say MoreThan's customer service has always impressed me, even if there prices are a bit silly) that, they could not bring down my premium any more due to 'Postcode Revaluation' or some crap, and that More Than were happy that they had quoted me competitively because they had reduced my premium. When I asked about the online quote being £204 Cheaper, she said that was the New Customer discount!
So there you go, New Customers to More Then get £200 off their premiums
A quick trip on Confused.com and Admiral quoted £286, which I readily accepted the next day over the phone. Job Done. Almost.
What I can't get over is the fact that, having been a customer of More Than for 2 years, last year I insured my Dog with More Than Pet Insurance because I was a happy customer, They still tried to fleece me for Over £200. Now I'm just pissed off with them.
I can't believe they tried to explain away a £200 overprice as a New Customer Discount. Doesn't loyalty mean anything anymore? They were happy that they had 'Quoted me Competitively'? My arse. £100 more expensive than the next highest quote isn't competitive, its taking the piss!
Tomorrow I shall be rearranging the pet insurance with someone else.
Enough of my ramblings
Thank You and Goodnight.

Apparently not. I've insured with Direct Line for the last 7 years (they've always been at least £100 cheaper than the cheapest quote)
This year, they were £100 more than the most expensive quote, so I got a quote from Privilege (owned by Direct Line), which came in at £100 cheaper than the cheapest. I phoned Direct Line to see if they wanted to price match, but was told they don't price match even for existing customers!!!
They don't seem to understand that it's easier and cheaper to KEEP an existing customer by keeping them happy than have to advertise to get new customers. Happy customers tell their friends, what better advertising can you get?
Did you try AON?
We've been with them for years. They're consistently the cheapest when it comes to renewals, or no more than £15 or so more expensive than the very cheapest quote so it's not worth moving the policy. Their customer service is absolutely excellent - professional and efficient, with just the right amount of attention to detail. And when it comes to claims, they're pretty hassle-free.
Will we renew with them this year? Almost certainly. Fab service.

I was with Direct Line and then went to Privilege as they offered me a better quote. I then got my first renewal from Privilege and it was more expensive than I'd pad for the first year! So I looked on Privilege's website and got my insurance down by almost 100 quid... So I phoned back and asked how that could be the case. They told me that because it was given on the website there's less overheads. The girl then told me that if I had the reference number from the website she could process the NCB through for me there and then!
Weird that the same company on one had quoted me more expensive and then on the other made it far cheaper than anywhere else!
My bike insurance has been much easier over the last two years by comparrison.

I had my renewal in November, was with Elephant last year (part of admiral), got the renewal quote through and started phoning around and found it £150 cheaper, with admiral, phoned them, they wouldn't match, but before I said how much cheaper it was they'd already knocked £100 off, I went with admiral as its effectively the same company, but unless you phone them to try and get some money off you will end up in this position as they always add a bit on to the renwal to see if you'll just ignore it a spend the money because the individual is lazy.
Used to have car policy through Aon, the muppets cancelled my policy and never told me, only when it came to renewal did I realise something was wrong as i'd never got a renewal quote.
"You cancelled your policy with us" says girl on phone "when?" I ask.
"ermm, err. Hang on" Disappears and comes back "Oh, we have nothing on file to say you did. Sorry, do you want to renew with us today?"
"No thanks, have already renewed with another carrier".
"Sorry to hear that, please bear us in mind when it comes to renew next year"
Anyway, RAC sent me a renewal this year, almost double last years. So I surfed, and their own website came in at approximately the same price as last year so I called and was told the internet policy has less attached to it and wasn't such a good policy. Rubbish I resonded and entered Insurance Broker mode, and discussed each of the terms and conditions.
Got to a point where they still insisted on the $600 premium
Not a problem said I, with 5 years NCB you can match the £370 from the web, or I go elsewhere. So they matched it, same coverage as I received the original renewal for aswell
so with the RAC for another 12months.

My renewal on my company fleet Policy came through - £7,600.00 and the robbing gits notified me on the day it was due for renewal.
WTF? - Well they certainly haven't quoted me happy!
Almost doubled since last year, and no claims!
for some quotes - Direct Line £4,300.00 (the only thing that they wouldn't cover was the bike}
Phoned my insurer and advised them that I wasn't renewing with them as I had got a much cheaper quote, they asked how much, so I told them.
They phoned back 10 minutes later "we will match your quote"
Me: Eh! You are having a laugh.
Them: No sir, we will match it £4,300.00
Me: So how come you quoted me almost double that for my renewal initially? In fact don't even bother trying to answer that, you lying robbing b
s, you thought that we would get the renewal through, panic when we realised that it was due right here and now, and we would go ahead without the thought of getting another quote. I dont care if you quote me half of what I have just been quoted you can get stuffed! In fact my private cars are insured with you and are due for renewal in about 6 weeks time, can you make a note on my file not to bother quoting me for the renewal as you have just lost all of my business [I then hung up]

A Very Happy NEW Admiral Customer
After being a happy customer for 8 years I made my first claim. Took them over 4 weeks to fix up the S2000 after a small crash.
Their claims service is second to everything
when my mother crashed mine- it took Norwich Union 14 weeks!
Another vote for Admiral here (sorry Pikey...)
Every renewal, I shop around. I give the best quote to Admiral and they match it or beat it.
When I bought the SL, they allowed me to mirror NCD, so I got 8 years straight away.
I've dealt with their claims dept, and they were okay with me, even let me take the Merc to a dealer for a new rear bumper when some tool drove into the back of me.

The wife and I were previously with Norwich Union, then renewal time came, the quotes were competitive, but there total lack of customer service forced us to go elsewhere. We used one of Admirals multi car schemes and saved about £400 quid than insuring all the cars and people individually. Never felt so good telling NU I was taking my £1600 worth of business else where due to their incompetance.
