The crappiest, most satanically jingoistic film of all time, is on tonight. Trashy, syrupy, full of adolescent ideas, brimming with pathetic, one-step-away from-reality emotional garbage. It could be Goerge Dubya Bush's favourite dream sequence. I for one, DO NOT want to be associated with USA notions of freedom i.e. what's good for USA is good for the rest of the world. Sorry to our American chums out there, but it may be surpising to some, but there is a world outside America, which doesn't necessarily coincide with their view of world unity, world peace, world anything.

Sorry, rant mode over.

Impotence Day, perhaps.

Agreed, 'tis an utter shite 'yanky-whoopass' film.

God bless America.

This film's 'unstoppable alien invaders stopped by a virus' plot is just an MTV generation rip-off of H G Well's War of the Worlds.

Impressive special effects, but apart from that, crap.

Interesting answer on the Internet Movie Database

Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Although it is extremely (!) unlikely that an entire alien invasion force utilizing unknown, advanced technology could be crippled by a hastily-written virus transferred from a laptop, it is not "strictly impossible". Levinson and Hiller managed to do this, so in the reality created by this film, it was "possible" and indeed did occur. Given the film's nature as an updated "War of the Worlds" (in which alien invaders were stopped only by a biological virus), the use of a computer virus to halt the invasion was perhaps mandated. Regardless, many viewers point out that this modern big-budget science fiction film handled such a critical plot element with much less care than it did other, less important technical issues.

They'd already captured an alien, maybe they just counted it's fingers

I always liked the depiction of the RAF as a squadron of about 3 fighters working from a desert.

Shame the reality is one non-working biplane kept in a disused warehouse somewhere in the midlands

No, they sold that to the Argies years ago and spent millions developing a new one that doesn't work.

Well I admit - I watched it. I remembered it being a fun entertaining film, but all I did was pick it apart!

my favorite piece - one scene, cant let the president in to area 51 underground shelter, major security, dust free environment. The next shot, will smith, his girlfriend, his kid, AND HIS DOG, all wondering in to see the spaceship....
