Car magazines - keep or bin ?

After much hassle for "the boss", I decided to recycle some car magazines. It was a tough choice. I have Fast Lane (remember that) from 1984 - 86 (I think), Performance Car (almost all of them), then a full collection of EVO, almost a full collection of Top Gear and Car from the last three years or so.

I decided to get rid of the last three years of Top Gear magazine. As its such a bulky mag, "the boss" thought I was throwing out more that I actually did.

So..do you keep them or bin them ??

I had a full set of Autocar from '87 through to Jan '01. Took up loads of bloody space in garage so when a new garage was required for the Ultima build, they had to go.

Now I only keep EVO and Which Kit. Autocar being weekly just eats to much space.

I binned several years worth of Autocar, Top Gear and assorted others a while back. Looked through them all and kept any issues with TVRs featured. Would have kept all if i had the space. Think of all those hundreds of pounds spent... I only keep Evo now.

...and I tend to only buy evo now -- unless there's a really good TVR article in another mag.

I try and keep anythinng with TVR in it, and most if not all EVOs. Even then, this can't go on forever...

I usually have a clear out every so often but must admit to still having the first 2 copies of "Street Machine" from May and June 1979

I have saved the Performance Tuning mags from the 80'ies where every month there was a diy head porting article by Peter Burgess (top man). I also kept the early Fast Car mags which had a lot of engine diy articles. Nowadays I save virtually nothing because diy tuning isn't fashionable, it's accessory bolt-ons or ice that people like to read about. Mainstream mags are full of quality but I don't save them. I ended up just saving the articles so I could dump the rest of the mag.

wont buy a mag unless it has a specific feature that i'm interested in... saved myself a fortune over the years

recycle 'em! i read them and give them to father who does the honours after he has looked at the pictures!. He does have almost every Motor Sport from 1949 though and Autosports dating back to the mid eighties........ he built a loft above the garage

Found a complete set of a mag called "On Four Wheels" while I was moving boxes to put the Xmas decorations in the loft. I think this was a monthly from the early 70s - anyone read that they're now a collectors item worth enought to fund the down payment on a T350C?

I keep most of mine(Car.Classic Car,EVO,Classic and sportscar),throw away the weekly stuff like Autocar.
Saw some copies of 'Supercar Classics' on offer at an autojumble this summer.
The vendor wanted £10per copy (it was a beutifully produced mag but a tenner ?).
BTW Have every edition of KERRANG from its inception till about 1989 - when i grew up .

Bet I've got em as well somewhere in the loft , Can't bear to part with anything I pay good money for , must have nearly every mag I've ever bought ranging from , Custom car , Street machine , Hot Car/Performance car , Autocar/Motor , various Kit mags , and every copy of Car from about 86 , and several supercar issues from before then

Farmer,keep those Supercar issuse's in good nick,you'll be sitting on a feckin gold mine in a few years - the price of these things is sky rocketing .

You could try to sell them on ebay, seems people will buy anything up there. Sell each mag seperately and advartise the subject matter, rather than bundle them all together, someone may want them.

I have got a few copies of Supercar classics. They were very nice (in their day) however with modern printing technology they are now really nothing special. Good artciles, though.

Does anyone remember another magazine (I think 6 copies) called "Car Classics???". I have 2 editions

Or "Sports car International", a strange blend of US and English writing??

There is money in these old magazines.

I have sold quite a few magazines overseas through eBay. Supercar Classics is a good seller (£4-£10 per copy) and Superclassics (only 4 ever made sold for £35!!). Car Classics though 9 issues was crap, I recently sold a set and only got about £16.00. I still have a complete set of Supercar Classics squirrelled away in the house somewhere as it is/was the best car mag ever.

I also had a mate who recently sold the first edition of Street Machine (with the sticker) on eBay and got £12 for it.

But the more common magazines Autocar, Classic and Sportscar don't fetch much, but Performance Car is popular (again I have got up to £10 a copy!!)

If anyone wants to donate/sell Evo No 2 to me, I'll willingly accept, will pay P&P.

I tend to keep all my car magazines! The other half managed to persuade me to throw out my old Autotrader's and Top Marques as she believed them to be 'wasting space' - don't know what she's talking about .
