Heeelp! Powerflow exhausts.....

I have this really bad feeling that the Powerflow exhaust I am going to put on my Pug 205 1.9 Gti will actually make the car perform much worse. I just ran into a really nice lad at AutoXs in MK and he said as he was passing 'You did well getting one that late' he then went on to say that he put a Scorpion exhaust on his and he didnt lose any power but he felt that a Powerflow will lose power - Can anyone help me on this. I know for sure I wont be gaining any power putting a stainless exhaust system on my car but I ceratinly dont want to lose any. Please help!!

What diameter exhaust is the Powerflow model you've bought? Not the backbox but the middle and down pipes.

You might not lose power Anarchy but what you might find is that the power range will shift up the rev range.

Peugeot spent a huge amount of money on getting the breathing of the engine optimised. The original exhaust, manifold and filter are pretty damn good. I've had 2 or 3 exhausts (not magnex or Powerflow) and had mixed results. I have now gone back to the original exhaust (not a remake but a Peugoet sourced stock item) and frankly the car has never been better.

If you do have it fitted - take it to a rolling road and make sure everything else is as it should be.

I was going to take my Pug down to Powerflow next week so that I could get the exhaust put on down there to my specification. I was looking at a 2 and half inch single exit exhaust or a three inch.... would this work or will I still losing power?

Had one for a couple of years myself and I must agree with Saveloy. Peugeot did a hell of a job tuning that engine. Unless you're doing a full road ace job on it, stick with the standard pipes etc, don't even mess with the filters if you can help it. Mine came with "sports" exhaust and K&Ns etc. I tuned it up by fitting all the standard kit back on! It made a hell of a difference overall. Plus, IMHO, I think it is without doubt a good future classic and the standard cars will hold their value better.

I am definately going to keep the standard parts such as the air filter and internals. My only problem is that when I bought the car - there was a cheap exhaust not Peugeot original on the actual car. This has caused me no end of problems with the CAT and gasket rings for the manifold. I burnt through two in a week and I just want a nice sounding Stainless steel exhaust that wont lose me performance. No conclusions yet!

Anarchy - please, if you haven't already committed money to this exhaust project, don't buy and fit that exhaust.

Read the article I put in a previous post below first - the standard exhaust is just too good to tamper with.

Now if you want to increase the power of the engine and you want to do it properly? Save up and get yourself an M16 engine - without doing anything to it you'll get 160bhp (it's an exceptional engine and it doesn't rely on variable valve timing or anything).

Personally I'd do as below - return it to standard, look after it, get it set up properly on a rolling road and enjoy the car! You wont regret it.

What year is your car Anarchy - post 91?

My car is a K plate - 1992 year. I have it decatted at the moment but I need to get plates welded back on to the cat so I can put it back on for its M.O.T next month. I also want a nicer sounding exhaust as mine sounds so high pitched. Should I try a mild steel exhaust, will that help? I dont mind not gaining power - but I would like the look and the sound whilst maintaining power, not worried about gaining but dont want to lose.
