I've just got a letter from T-mobile saying that they are upping my pay as you go to 5 TIMES the amount . It used to be 30p for the first 2 minutes then 5p thereafter. Now "...to make sure you are on the most competative pay as you go plan" All my calls will be a flat rate of 30p per minute for the first £10 per month, f*** me!

I've contacted the "customers support" they were really helpful Heres the question for the legal bods:

I've been told that if I tell them to stuff it (ie go to anyone else) the credit in my account will not be refunded. This sounds wrong to me, I paid the credit before the plan changed and as far as I can see it is still my money not theirs. Can this company do this?

So what's the rate after your first 33 minutes(£10/30p) per month...? Is it such a sh!te deal, or don't you use the phone much.. Assuming you make 16 calls over 2 minutes a month and the charge after your original £10 is less than 5p a minute, you'll be saving money..

Vodafone are playing silly buggers and putting a minimum 5p call charge on their PAYG phones as well, probely to stop those "Its xx my credit is about to run out call me back"

I got one of these letters as well, didn’t really read it and I don’t know where it is now. (irrelevant as I mainly use 02 now) But didn't it say that it was starting from feb? Just use your credit before then and switch companies. Oh and by the way, o2 charge 50p per min cross networks! I Thought oftel was investigating this, didn’t anything come of it?

No then it changes to 20p per minute, then after £20 its 10p/minute so in other words I'm always losing at least 5p per minute compared to my old rate of 30/min for first 2 mins then 5p thereafter.

I use my mobile for answer machine and customer service. ie my customers ring me and leave a message I then ring their home/land line and give advice (usually 20 mins max) I would only have a couple of calls like this a month. The rest of the time my moble does nothing.

So it is totally sh*t for me, it costs at least twice as much even if I use the phone a LOT. Don't forget it used to be 60p + 5p per minute there after. A 20 minute call used to cost £1.50 now its £6.00 to me thats a con!

to be honest PAYG is really meant for low use. (i have it cos i make about 30 seconds of calls a month on average) if you use it a lot then from what i hear a contract is far more economical... unless you have a bad credit rating, in which case time to use up your credit and shop around.

Yep it comes in on feb the 5th I've got £20 in credit and I used (wait for it) a total of about £2.00 in the last month. So in others words I have nearly a years worth of credit already in, so getting a refund is important. (Why did I buy £20 it was the only top up card available in the shop at the time)

I don't ring cross network (or hardly ever), see above post on how I use the mobile.

Either way I'm not happy in the way this has been done, seems to me that they are doing this to push contract based payment.

smeagol, you could put it for sale on Ebay or Qxl. probably get £10 ish. I wouldnt stand for it though, they cant put prices up like that, surly! Maybe its because someone finialy realised that PAYG is cheaper than Tmobile contracts!
Alternativly just use it as a house phone for the next month and waste the credit, or phone Bodo in germany!

Ring them up and say the one you are currently on is the most competitive. You shouldnt have a problem and if you do, take some advice from the 'best complaints' thread.

The whole survival of these companies involves migrating all their PAYG customers to monthly subscrptions - then they have a guaranteed revenue stream.

PAYG is more expensive than a monthly subscrption anyway and there are rarely any credit score obstructions to getting a subscrption now. PAYG is only any good for kids really.

Oh and T-Mobile (None to None) really is the paupers' network in every respect.. probably better now but they've always been miles behind the GSM900 providers ITO coverage.

And you're giving your money to the krauts..

I was with them for 4 years and had just about had enough of their, poor coverage, expensive call charges (particulary to other networks), and worst of all the customer services.

I am now with Orange.

(p.s I am immune to CS gas)

Ditto. Except for one strange occurence - when I phoned up T-Mobile customer services to get a number transfer thingy, their service was immaculate.

The guy from the Carphone Warehouse reckoned their last chance to ever hope of getting me back as a customer one day was by giving decent service then...

She'll then put a mono gramophone record of Greensleeves on and leave the room for 20 minutes.

Uncles GF: "I'm sorry, Karen appears to have gone for lunch. Could I take your name & I'll have her get back to you?"

TVRAdict: "Umm.. dinnae worry about it eh?"

Uncles GF: "Right you are sir, thankyou for calling T-Mobile."
