The Story of Easter Island

That's another good point. After surviving totally ruining themselves by cutting all the trees down, civil war, starvation and cannibalism, these poor sods were then shagged to death by the dutch...
Glad to see they wern't speeding and poluting the atmosphere with, dare I say it, CARS!!!
Good prog, but not as informed as at first sight, the majority of the theory is in Thor Heyerdahls Aku Aku, just the geneticist has put a new slant on it, as it's "proven" now that they were Pacific Islanders and not balsalog boat people.......can recommend Aku Aku if anyone wants to read it. Almost 45 years old but still (with above exception) THE reference book, as he spoke to the last "pure" Rapanuians before they were completely wiped out/inbred by the incoming ecuadorian sheep farmers.

There is a dodgy feature film which is based on all those theories.
Called Rapa Nui. Its on Amazon.com ( not uk though ).
Its an alright film. Has the birdman competition and all that. It stars the bloke who played Bruce Lee in the totally awful 'Dragon' in it.
To be honest the documentary last night was better than the film. Don't know why Im telling you about it really.
You'd be much better off getting the 'Heidi' videos featured on Eurotrash last night.

I missed this one, but thought the "Empire" programme on C4 was excellent. I really expected a load of hand-wringing apologist type stuff but if fact the show was, if anything, pro-what-had-done. I found myself quite embarrassed about how little I knew about how we came to have the pink bits.
Shame we've turned our backs on the commonwealth and thrown in our lot with the continentals. Makes no sense to me really.

Fascinating story, but you have to agree, that at the point they actually chopped down the last palm tree, someone might have said, "hey, thats like the last tree on this frickin island, do we really want to do this?, I mean when we start eating each other, someone might need that tree to hide behind or something"
