"Gumball Rally" film on Ch5 tonight.
Discussion
top film, have it in my collection of videos and watch it regularly with my 7yo boy.
The scene where the Daytona is screaming thru NY streets early in the morning is great
Raul Julia plays a great part as a Ferrari F1 driver hired to drive the Daytona and has some classic lines like when he snaps the rear view mirror off and says " whatsa behind me is not really important!"
And the scene where they drive the Spider into the trailer to escape the police is funny

It's an old movie but if you like nice sounds from classic cars this is a must (sure it's all dubbed but it is still close enough to be fun)

Cracking film!
Partucularly towards the end, powersliding through the Storm drain!
Also liked the empty city street/noisy car scenario..........Hang on, I'm at work until about 7am, I'm in central Londres and my motor's downstairs cos I drove in last night!!

Methinks the drive home is going to be entertaining!

sixspeed said: You want the Mischief3000 DVD then. Far more action of the actual racing, and it's from last years Gumball (2002 - NY to LA) ...

IMHO one of the best car films ever. I used to have a copy on video but it was an edited version. Best bits for me are the storm drain sequence, especially the demonstration on leaving that 'there is no substitute for cubes' as the Cobra leaves the Daytona for dead on acceleration and the mad biker on the Kwaka 400 sequences.
Edited to add the Cannonball Run is nowhere near as good as this (IMHO of course).

Is this worth watching?? The book says it was made in 1976, so it can't be the Jackas version.
Anyone seen it??
How does it compare with The Cannonball Run (quality film- why don't they show this film??)
excellent film. much better than cannonball IMO. you can still buy both on amazon.com but only in usa format. my video does NTSC and PAl formats so its fine.

My favorite line of the film. When will the authorities take note that people on autopilot aren't safe drivers?
right now i'm pissed off!!!
thought i'd buy "gumball rally" off amazon.com as you can't get it in this country!!!
they have an offer teaming it with "le mans" starring steve mcqueen which i want to buy as well as when i recorded it off the telly the tape run out right before the end!!!
-even better i think, two birds with one stone and all for £19 including shipping...
then i find out that they almost certainly wont play on British VCR's as we use PAL format and America uses something called NTSC.
so i can't buy the videos, i desperately want to see Gumball and now i can't...
if anyone could source me a copy i would be very gratefull, and will pay cash!!!
also, why the f
k is there differnces between UK and American VHS and DVD's!?!
its not as if i'm trying to buy a cheap video, i just want to buy a title that isn't avaliable in this country ffs!!!

get a video and TV that will play both NTSC and PAL formats and problem solved
These are the problems when different countries use different formats for recording ( a bugger really as I would like LeMans, already got GR on video and watch it regularly with my son

and where do you get tv's and vcr's that can play both mr knowitall...
seriously, if i sent you a blank tape would you record Gumball Rally onto it!?! i REALLY want to see this film
for this you would obviously need two videos, or a friend with two videos... if not i could do it, if you could send the video to me!?!
i do have Le Mans on video i recorded off the telly when i was around 7 but annoyingly it cut the end of just after steve mcqueen gave the famous two fingers to the german in the ferrari.
