Rover mirror - any ideas?

Hi all,

Some kind numpty has just knocked the mirror glass out of the o/s mirror on my Rover 216. Nothing exciting - no damage to either the casing or the glass - but I can't get the glass to clip back in and stay there.

Anyone know how to do this???

Is the clippy thing busted? If not they can be a bit hard to push in, just give them a bit of stick.

Or just go and get a scrappy one.

I agree with gtir - had the same thing happen to me when I had a 214.

Ah, that's where I'm going wrong. I can't get the clip to sit in place - I just need to be a bit more assertive with it.

If its anything like my old 820, the connection is a ring about 2 inches in diameter. Needs to go in competely flat, and takes a fair bit of force - enough that you'd think the glass will break, so you stop pushing!

Had a similar thing on my Astra, bought a new mirror as the glass went, but needed some grease (well washing up liquid at the time!) to get the clip back in with, as it was so tight. Might be worth a go with yours too if it refuses to go in easily.

Here's an update on the mirror situation. After much faffing this weekend, I finally admitted defeat and took the car to the garage that services it - they offered to "pop the glass back in" for me, only a 10-minute job...

Well, 25 minutes later it still wouldn't go in. So a little extra brute force was applied and - whoops! Broken glass and off to the office to order up a new one... Lots of apologies and "don't worry, we'll pay for the new glass".

The thing is, this was the same garage that gave me a loan car sans petrol and wouldn't help me when I ran out - so it just goes to show, there is such a thing as karma!!

I managed to keep a straight face until I left the premises, but drove all the way home PML.....
