Don't know if anyone else saw it but I was sickened this morning by the kid's tv show Bob the Builder,(I should get out more), who was building a speed bump and chicane, afterwards he commented "there that will make the road safer" is this the latest speed kills propaganda targeting young kids? (I believe that BTB is made by the BBC - no surprise then)

What next a Teletubbie Gatso'd on his scooter? FFS

I know that tv reflects life but how many programmes get slated for having too much bad language/violence etc even when they are entirely realistic, yet this PC opinion which is not neccesarily correct is no doubt "encouraged" by the political wing of the provisional BBC.

Cazzo,

I think you are going overboard a bit here. For all you know the stretch of road that BTB was applying 'traffic calming' techniques to could have caused a number of accidents behind the scenes.

You don't honestly think that BTB would impose speed restrictions on an already safe part of the road do you?

Seriously, I see your point.

The frustrating thing is that by indoctrinating the young ( and itsnot just B.T.B ) by the time they get to be of driving / voting age they will actually belive this. Think back to drink driving, most of us agree that its dangerous and highly anti social but our parents did it without thinking. Talking to my father who's in his late 60's he recalls that he and his friends where very indignant when 'The Breathaliser' was introduced in much the same way as we today are of 'speed/safety camers'. Look forward 20 years and its quite possible most people will actually regard speeding as being as bad as drinking n driving..

Pity Bob The Builder doesn't have the speed bump outside his own house, with lorries keeping him awake all night. He'd soon be back out with his JCB.

Now that would make a better episode.

Maybe someone should go and kidnap his cat and hold it to ransom until he removes said speed bump.

Edited to add: Oh, sorry. Forgot. The cat I was thinking of belongs to Postman Pat, that idiot who always drives with his foglights on. Let's nick Bob's tools instead - Bob the Unemployed!!!!

Yeah you're right, BTB should at least explain about suitable speeds for suitable conditions, show that the behaviour of motorists in this area wasn't suitable despite a 30 speed limit, maybe show one of the other characters being mown down by Mumty on the school run and the subsequent effect one the community

Then put in some trsffic calming measures

It's a kids program, FFS lighten up

Saw an article somewhere where some lentil-eating type councilor wanted to make speeding as unacceptable as drink driving. I remember back at school, around 16-17 the police came in and told us about the dangers of drink driving and to wear seat-belts, and both those messages have sunk in.

If the police start preaching drive within the limits and you'll be driving safe, the kids will go out in there cars (which these days have all the safety toys) and drive badly, but avoid being Gatsoed.

However on a less serious note, if you see the way that Bob the Bulders's friends (Muck the digger, Lofty the crane etc.) drive, you'd understand why they were installing one!

It's OBVIOUS that BTB's local council have a grant that they NEED to spend before the end of the financial year, otherwise next year's budget will be smaller... so they got Bob to build a speed bump.

As for Pilchard... er... I bought my Mum a giant version (it stands around 2 foot tall) for her 50th...!

Its not just speeding, the lentil eaters run the BBC. Every program on the environment mentions global warming as a fact, no arguments, no assessment of the evidence, no counter arguments from scientists who dispute the evidence (there is also evidence we may be entering a new ice age!!); for the BBC its a fact. Now speak to any child and they just except the fact none have any idea that a considerable body of scientists may hold very different views.

There is no such thing as a cement mixer its a CONCRETE mixer.
Muck is used by bricklayers and is made by mixing sand, cement water and some times lime(with a bit of fairy liquid).
Cement is refered to as dust not muck.

I knew my degree in building would come in handy one day!!!

Hmm.. it is something that concerns me, that kids are being brainwashed before they're old enough to reason things out for themselves..

If I had kids they'd have access to no TV and no internet. In fact they'd be in a cage in the cellar..
