Hate to burst your bubble guys but take a look at page eleven of this (with regards DRL):

I agree about 'NO FOG LIGHTS ON IN THE DAYTIME'. No one should get away with it. I drive a Pug Gti and my Fogs/driving lights only come on with my full beams. I am getting them rewired as I hate having my full beams on in the foggy weather as it reflects back into my face. I am not one to drive with them in the daytime though - only idiots do that.

You'll find that the law states that your fogs MUST switch OFF when you go to high beam and if you've front fogs they may only be wired with the rear fogs so that they operate together! Also must NOT work when sidelights are only used! Thats EU LAW! Not wired that way and it's a MOT (or local equiv) fail!!!

anarchystorm - this sounds like you have driving lights fitted, NOT fogs. The driving lights have a different beam pattern from fogs, and hence would be pretty useless if used as fogs.
I used to have a 309XSi with all the factory fitted extra lights (2 fog & 2 driving lights) and I seem to remember it was possible to switch off the driving lights if they weren't required.

Ive always wondered why the rear fogs on my Golf switch off when i put full beam on - i always thought there was an electrical gremlin somewhere! Interestingly tho, my mates E30 BMW 320i will happily display all 4 full beam lights AND his front fogs, all at the same time - will he fail his next MOT?
