Clarkson wasted a great chance. Every time he had Livingstone or Hewitt? on the back foot he belittled his own argument with a childish comment; i'e. "buses are for old people" and " they wear shoes made out of spinach." He really could have ripped it but

Having seen Livingstone, you've got to give the man some credit. In this day and age of politicians refusing to take responsibility and stand up and be counted, at least he is upfront in saying "this scheme is not wanted but something must be done" he's putting his balls on the line which is very rare nowadays. The scheme is still crap and will fail but hey.

Sadly it seems JC now belives his own hype and as you say trys too hard to be funny , thats why TG is a waste of time IMO , he used to be funny in a more natural way now he forces it and it is not working .

Nobody noticed the tongue in cheek, even BBC News stated before the programme that JC is FOR a £50 charge!!!! of course totally out of context!!!! Another point... anyone notice that the BBC is being OVER PC? virtually all questions were posed by non-Brits (sorry non-white minorities!)

Clarkson acted like the overgrown schoolboy that he undoubtedly is. But who expected him to be anything else? His trivialising and say-it-for-effect style is OK fronting a motoring prog (in reasonably small doses) but he looked like a caricature of himself on QT. Uncomfortable in converstation and you could sense he was always looking for opportunities to interject a clarksonism.
I did enjoy seeing him pick on Pat Hewitt's inconsistency re her opinion (as Trade Secretary in Balir Government) that our cricket team should not go to Zimbabwe since Mugabe runs a perfectly horrible regime while she is perfectly happy to see BA fly to Harare 3 times a week.

I agree with most of the others here. (now there's a thing!) I thought JC could have fared much better. However Michael Howerd made the best point of the evening when he said the he was disgusted that every time the subject of Asylum came up for debate Labour played the race card. This always annoys me intensley. I have noticed that they do the same thing when the NHS is debated. We always get "but the Doctors and Nurses do a fantastic job"...

The funniest comment was from Hewitt when she tried to justify BA continuing to fly to Zimbabwe on the basis that it would allow those who wanted to leave the country an opportunity to do so. Have Air Zimbabwe ceased flying to London then?
The loudest "white" contributor from the audience was also a non-Brit (he sounded South African or possibly Rhodesian). He admitted that he came to England as an asylum seeker twenty five years ago.

Sadly JC didn't get much of a chance. Was it me, or did most of the questions get put to the other three panelists then put out to the floor for comment. JC was ignored. When he did start to have a go the "debate" was moved on to another topic.
