Answer - when it's on an Alfa!

I'm not happy with the dipped beam headlights on my Alfa 156. So I dropped past the dealer this morning and asked if it was possible to upgrade the candlepower.

The advice I received was "we get loads of 156 drivers asking about this - we recommend you just use the front driving lights when travelling on dark roads."

Well, they look like foglights to me...!

EH???

Your not happy with dipped, so switch on driving lights, that should only come one with mains.

Thats just the same as saying switch on your mains!

It's definitely a fog light symbol. They are definitely fog lights. My original post was badly phrased - when he said "just switch on the driving lights" he didn't mean switch on the driving lights alone. He meant "switch on the driving lights to supplement the dipped beam headlights". Which I won't be doing...unless it's foggy!

The point is that it's bad enough having all these numpties driving around with their fog lights on, without having dealers advising people to do it in an entire genre of cars, just because the dipped beam headlights are ineffectively designed.
