I thought the Koenigsegg CCX looked incredible, particularly in full flamespitting mode...
However Jeremy's article about the car in today's Sunday Times revealed serious problems with the car on Vmax runs.Wonder just how 'finished' the car is.I remember that Autocar tested the previous model which was supposedly 655 bhp. They could not undestand why the car produced times consistent with a car producing a lot less power(0-100 about 8.5 sec).
Would love to see the car on a rolling road shoot out....!

Just saw it. That's it, I want to see that, a Veyron and the Cerbera Speed 12 in a race.

Doesn't he explicitly say in the Sunday Times article that the TG producer wanted to the CCX before it was properly finished? In which case I feel sorry for C. von Koenigsegg, having an unfinished car demonstrated on the biggest motoring program in the UK? World?

That said, the lack of downforce seems an odd oversight, and screams "Look at us, we can claim an awesome top speed at the expense of building a proper car."

Do it in moderation Nick and just race one. You'll use too much fuel the other way.

Good point re the rear wing effect on top speed.
I recollect that the Mclaren F1 LM was well over 20 mph 'slower'(if you consider 220 mph slow!) than the standard road F1 car due to the former being bedecked in front spoilers and rear wings for downforce.

I think Koenigsegg should have resisted the temptation to deliver an unfinished car, and should have been aware that the car would struggle on the track with the Stigg without a rear wing.Hope the body shop dont charge the boss what they would charge a customer for a new carbon front bumper!

Looked magnificent with the flames coming out the back, that's for sure. However, the V8 in the K'egg just doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the 12 in the Zonda F. Don't get me wrong, it sounded good but bent 8s just don't sing like 12s do.

It also appears that Gordon Murray may be right, more than 700hp in a RWD only car on road tyres appears to be too much.

The F1 LM also had shorter gearing than the standard F1.

I agree, the Zonda sounds much nicer. The noise of the CCX seemed to be mainly superchager whine.

Although I found myself really rather drawn to that car tonight. My god it looks beautiful. Nicer than a Zonda.

Does the window wiper always stay in the middle of the windscreen when it's not on?

The earlier Konig... that was tested was commented on as being sick at the time of the last test. Can't remember if it was Autocar or EVO or even top gear, but they said it was prob only producing in the region 550bhp rather than the usual 655.
This CCX looked pretty quick though!!

Have to agree. The CCX really is a stunningly coherent design to behold.

Too much is good. Sure, it can make a car become more about how much throttle travel you don't use most of the time but on the occasions you can nail it, omigod...

The V8 soundtrack of the K'egg with the jet-style blower whine is sublime. That's a proper menacing sound to enjoy while having your faced pulled off. Have to say, all the 'bad behaviour' of the CCX just makes it appeal to me all the more - buckaroo-di-doo!

Every time I see/hear a K'egg, I get a bad itch to sell property.

Did they really made their own engine? I'm sceptical. Have they modded something else or pretended to, anybody know?

Go on Phil, you know you need more cars and this one seems to be the maddest one out there!
The Brunette said, upon hearing it was supposed to do 250mph, doesn't that make it a better buy than an Enzo?
After tonight's handling and stability demonstration, I would say not...

Top speed (as Gordon Murray asserts) is the least relevant aspect of a car's performance. (Although I must admit, I prefer my supercars to be easily capable of 200mph )

The basis of the engine is from a [Ford] motorsport programme. The highly tenuous Ford link is something the Clarkson's of this world love to point out.

That's to seriously, seriously undermine what CvK has done with the block he started with. You need to think of it more as a convenient basic block with approximately the right bore centres that's then extensively worked over and everything else bolted to it is bespoke. The block is cast for K'egg, to their spec, with the K'egg logo embossed on it.
