I know this subject has been done to death but I've found this article from the Sun

ASYLUM MELTDOWN

The Sun supports immigration but the UK has become a doormat for the world to wipe its feet on.

Today we have a message to our ten million readers:

IT IS TIME FOR TONY BLAIR TO TAKE ACTION.

There is no room for hate or bigotry — only simple common sense. Take a look at these facts:

Blair dosnt Care, should be the Suns front page regarding this disgrace.
He only seems to care about foreigners.
I dont see what hes trying to acheive by letting this lot in.
They already call this place Britanistan, a sign of things to come perhaps?

Why is it that comparitively under populated countries such as France / US or Australia seem to take fewer refugees than us??

I think we should stop paying such good benefits, it is our own generousity which encourages people to travel half way accross the world.

I still dont understand how people can claim efugee status after travelling through half a dozen other countries to get here??

Surely if a war is about to start immigration should be stopped immediately, it would be like us keeping the borders open to german nationals in the second world war.

Well, the title of this topic certainly did what is said on the tin.
I just wish for once the government would apply common sense rather than avoid the issue and do the PC thing. Sure they realise it's becomming an issue and are trying to screen applicant more effectively, but surely while they're doing that they should put up the walls? I mean, you can't fix a leaky pipe with the water still switched on.
If there was some way of determining the difference between asylum seekers (with a genuine problem) from economic migrants I think we'd all be happier.
With a war potentially looming and us despatching our troops into the area, it scares the hell out of me thinking that we're openly letting our ememy into our midsts without even considering the danger.

For not being ashamed to post a link to the Sun
Things have come to a pretty pass when the Sun seems to be one of the only papers that I agree with

I have just read on CNN that the UK has granted asylum to one of the Taliban fighters who was fighting against the UK/US forces in Afghanistan. How fg stupid can you get?

Well at least we know where to pick Osama Bin Laden up.

Just wait for him at the immigration desk at Heathrow to fly in on his private 747, and claim asylum, his council flat and benefits.

I'm afraid it's going to take two things for this country to wake up and get tough. One is a Sept 11th type atrocity on our own doorstep that will shock the public into wanting to get tough and put the sandal wearers out of popularity, and two is a change of Government to one with a pair of balls (not that there's really much in the way of plausible opposition mind)

In the mean time it's a sad fact we've just got to lump it and put up with being "Doormat Britain" hay maybe that could be the new catch phrase to run alongside "Ripoff Britain"

Word is, that the boy March is being turfed out of Goodwood so that Johnny Semtex & Co. can lark around in the palaces of the mighty rather than some squalid complex which only has Sky Digital rather than duplex and full en suite facilities per chamber...

Oh, here you are Mr.Turpin; steal some more to finance sensible wool policy no.10958.

Imagine what Dickie Mk1, aka Lionheart would think?

Does make me laugh/cry how the terms "asylum seeker", "refugee", "foreigner" and "economic migrant" all end up getting equated.

Working in the City I'm surrounded by foreign, economic migrants ... majority of them are white and wealthy and European or American so that's alright then. They account for about 50% of the workforce. Do I hear any voices complaining ... nope.

We have a moral duty to help refugees and offer asylum to those who need it. We should make use of economic migrants where it serves the greater good (as we do in the NHS, education system, the City, construction, etc). But most of all we need to drastically improve the way these people are handled when they enter the country so that the system is administered quickly, efficiently, fairly and transparently.

The current mess is a breeding ground for little Englander reactionary stupidity.

I can not see a problem with building reception centres so long as they treat their inmates humanely ... give Amnesty and Red Cross offices in them if they want. Similarly the Lib Dem's idea of merging the immigration service, parts of customs and excise, etc into a single "border control" service sounds emminently sensible, although it is only somehting that could be implemented in the long term.

for the past 30 years Australia and america have operated an immigration policy which has been almost exclusively based on whether or not an individual willbe an ASSET TO THE COLLECTIVE to coin a phrase

to the extant that to get into australia you often need to have say $10,000 in the bank or a professional qualification

so when you say does anyone complain about the 50% white bankers ...of course we bloody don't - they are welcome and help to generate revenue for the UK

Similarly most people don't begrudge asylum seekers feeling persecution or indeed econmic migrants who work hard and pay into the uk

BUT

If they come here and take from the benefits system, have there own doctors practices set up EXCLUSIVELY for them, get put up in country hotels when UK CITIZENS are on the streets homeless - then spout off about the white infidels and brew up ricin - is it any wonder people start to think " are we a soft touch"

I am no racist, but a tougher line on immigration will prevent further racist incidents in the UK - you cannot have good race relations if one group is always given favoured status at the expense of the majority !

Shocking, simply shocking.

Thing I cant understand is that we are getting towards a point where the majority of the nation are saying 'Enough is enough', so why the fcuk are we still an open house?

I know we have Geneva commitments but surely we have fulfilled them in comparison with other member states? Alternatively Billy Liar could be counting on the fact that all the genuine asylum seekers will 'Vote for that nice Mr Blair who gave us the flat/house/seat' because no one could be arsed voting for him at the last election so is he perhaps importing ready made labour supporters?

Matt.

When Prince Charles starts sounding like a "man of the people" you know Government aren't listening.

When the Sun starts talking sense you know things have hit rock bottom.

Beacause we are at the "end of the line" of the countries that border the problem areas. As for them getting to Aus. they would have to get over rather a large ocean!

I still dont understand how people can claim efugee status after travelling through half a dozen other countries to get here??
Perhaps they just want to get as far away as possible???? If you had been beaten, had family killed, would you really want to just get into the neighbouring country and stop there?

Fact is most people live in their nice houses, with their nice cars and with their nice jobs and so have no possible way to relate to what people from non-democratic countries have gone through.

I am sure there is a fair share of "squatters" - but then if you have ever lived in France you will know that the benifits available are far better than the UK (hence National Insurance is twice the rate over there than it is here).

Gargamel ... read what I wrote ...

I agree that the system of handling these people needs to be overhauled. I support the idea of reception centres. Those who have no valid claim, or who look likely to plant bombs under park benches should be sent packing.

What I object to is the tendency of many to trivialise the real and complex problem we face by saying "keep foreginers out", which is just bloody stupid.

Another thing that is frankly bloody stupid is to suggest there is any link between looking after "our own" homeless people and our immigration problems. As a nation we are actually capable of doing more than one thing at a time.
