Thought I'd join in as we were getting dangerously close to talking about cars again..

What you don't do is what I did 5 minutes ago. Small papercut on left index finger, chillie juice all migrates there.. Much jumping around the kitchen and swearing later during which I did the age old mechanics trick of waving the injured hand around in the air, followed by sucking it.

Not good.. How come something that sounds as cute as scotch bonnet is such an evil fecking thing?

Edited to add - Oh dear I said sucking it.. 1, 2, 3,...

Food was good in the end..

Managed to avoid all other potentially painful experiences along the way..

Saves eyes and stuff but chillies are still oily but a lot less than the bread board.

Anorak fact about chillies? The active burny stingy compound in chillies (and whilst we're at it - well done! the Scotch Bonnet is the Samuel L. Jackson of Chillies) is soluble not in water - but in fat. Rub your eye (or eyes!) inadvertantly and you'd better have a pint of milk handy.
However probably best NOT to get caught standing in the middle of the kitchen panting and swearing with your old chap wedged into the neck of the milk bottle.

Nope! Very useful life advice. Also the reason you shouldn't be reaching for the lager when you've scoffed into a curry that's a mite hotter than you intended. += Best to go for the naan!

I once put my contact lenses in soon after chopping some chillies, but I hadn't quite scrubbed my hands thoroughly enough... I only did this the once, you will note.

Another anal chilli fact: apparently it's the white pithy bit down the centre of the chilli that's the really hot bit, not the seeds as is commonly believed.

What I ment was it reduces the spray from cutting and reduces the amount of oil on your hands. Use it often.
Now then, beats the excuse about falling over with your dressing gown on next time at casualty

I put my 'chilli holding hand' in a food bag whilst chopping the chilli. Knife hand is Ok cos it doesn't actually make contact with the chilli. Just make sure you don't pierce the bag whilst chopping.

Its agony in the eye although not as bad as putting a contact lense in that hasn't been neutralised. That's real pain.

My mate made a nice meal for his missus containing lots of chillies. He forgot all about this until he was getting amorous with her later that night. Started to give her the finger...
After a few screams from her they both remembered

Does anyone remember the true confessions on R1, there was a bird on there confessing to doctoring the crotch of her boyfriends shreddies. She liquidised a chilli or two, and rubbed it onto the crotch of his pants. Later that night he changed into fresh shreddies and proceeded to take out bint number 2, are you getting the idea now. All was going swimmingly until the temperature was upped a bit and contact was made. Still makes my eyes water thinking about it.
