Got a Cylinder Head....but what to do with it.....

Yesterday I 'came across' an old (possibly damaged) cylinder head, from what looks to be a 1.6litre CVH (
). There are a few possible problems with it though.
1) It was minus everything except valves and valve springs. There is an oil residue all over the 'movement' side, and the tops of the cylinders are very black, there seems to be grease in some parts of the cam shaft hole(?) and it doesn't seem damaged. Is there any way of telling if it is siezed?
2) Using the palm of my hand, or my foot, I can't move the valves. Should I be able to?
3) There is some slight rusting inside the head, could this cause a problem during future use (I will of course remove the rust first.
4) There is a white residue around the area that the head gasket should have been, does this indicate that the head gasket has failed in a previous life?
5) With there being no Rockers et al (can somebody please explain all these pieces to me) this seems like the perfect opportunity to have some fun with it, new cam, better valves, performance enhancing stuff etc. Could there be any problems with doing this? Oh, and in each of the holes that lead from the rockers to the Cam, there are screw like threads which seem to have been mostly worn away, Problem? Or are these scratches from when the thing was removed from the hole?

You might also like to purchase the Haynes manual entitled Tuning the CVH engine before going ANY further.

If you want to play around then don't even bother with this. You don't know where it has been, if it is warped, cracked or otherwise ruined.
Go down to the scrappy and ask for a CVH head (they will probably pay you to take it away
) that is known to be good. It will come with cam, valves, etc.
This is a MUCH better starting point than some piece of junk you found lying around.

I've got 1 of them. -off my old justy -Dont know what to do with it either.
Thing is, even if you can't see it, if someone's taken it off/stripped usable bits off it its probably warped (as mine was) or losing compression somewhere(hairline crack?).
What to do with a block tho, that is my question. I thought about a wine bottle holder/cooler ah la Ford DFV, but as its iron, it'll rust and i cant see painting it well (outside and inside) being very easy..
