If anyone's in the market for insuranc could you try out the new quote engine that we've got.

here

If it's any good then I'll install it properly on the site. Feedback appreciated on the quotes provided (please don't comment on the page designs as that's outside of our control).

couple of points...

I affirm that I do not have a second job - its already ticked - you should make people tick it to show teir consent rather than have it ticked by default.

Next button doesn't work on Convictions page.

Easy to use and fairly quick but wasn't too happy with the final quote( a tad High me thinks ).
Couldnt offer a quote for Exhaust mods online but showed a number to call.

Just tried it as mine is due next week.

Seems to be very similar layout to others that I have tried.

Big downside is over £100 dearer than I've been quoted elsewhere. I've had six or seven quotes, and I think this was the second dearest.

Ted,

the list of modifications didn't include LPG/Dual Fuel. If you do include this, insurers want to know if it's an LPGA approved installation too. Perhaps 2 LPG options in the list 1 for LPGA approved and 1 for not approved?

Other than that it handled my mistakes well. The quote was pretty competetive too!

No Noble!

I recognise it from somewhere - can't put my finger on it though.....

Quote is OK for the Lotus though, about £80 more expensive (10%) than I can get elsewhere on-line.

I like the way it shows the underlying underwriter, and the "next best quote".

Hope that helps Ted.

The thing that always winds me up about these online quotes is having to fill in all the information and then getting to the point where it is decided that I can't be quoted.

It would be great if they could ask these critical questions up front so you could exit without having to type all the information in.

In the example I tried, it refused to quote because I specified a modification (only after filling in four or five pages of information). It would be nice if the first question was "is the car modified?".

Thanks guys. As I said, I'm not responsible for the way the system works so have little say in modifying that.

What I'm interested in is whether it's providing useful quotes. If it's not then I'll not bother integrating it with the site and I'll consider setting up something similar myself in conjunction with more specialist brokers.

You mean you wont insure a 18year old male on a cebera 4.5. Why ever not? Looks easy to use. Will members of PH get a discount?

That *really* winds me up. Direct Line, Tesco's, NU *all* do that 5 pages and then "no quote - we don't cover your car"

So why not ask the car as the first thing then idiot!

*sigh* - HCI interface design is a lost art.

I may be an awkward case, but it only managed a 1317 quote as opposed to the (approx.) 680 I'm currently paying.

As I've posted here before, I find the only way to get decent quotes is to phone around lots of specialist brokers who can deal with the complexities of what I need. I have never come across an automated quote engine (or a call centre ) that can come close.

I suspect that many PHers are in a similar boat, and a specialist service would be of more use - unless everyone else has rushed out to buy standard Micras ...

Same here for a standard Elise - 29yrs old - 18K per year - although I do need business mileage though...

your kidding? try a few from autotrader.co.uk i was quoted 8k on a cerb (not that I can afford one) Its strange tho, because for a gold gti that i can afford (Free-tar uncle) its ony about £700 less than a TVR! madness.

must be one of the easiest quickest online quotes I've had, though the quote was some 20% higher than others I've had.

This came back at £1174 for '99 4.5 chimera - tesco's quoted £998, so not as competitive as I would have liked.

Cheers
