I know it may seem a silly question but what do you think would win in a drag race between the Tuscan and the Zonda?

Because in the magazines their 0-60 times are very similar.

What do PH's think would happen in the race? Would the Zonda just go off into the distance?

Yep, Zonda would IMO have the definite advantage especially after 100 mph. Up to that speed there probably wouldn't be much in it. Its be down who can stop wheelspining the most...

0-60 is not a useful measure of a cars "real world" performance, getting the "official best" time for a car will often kill the clutch and put massive strain on drivetrain components.

Look at the 0-100 (or for cars like this 0-150) for which would be faster in a drag race.

Im guessing the Zonda but I havent looked up the figures.

The roadgoing Speed 12 would have left anything else in its dust, its a shame PW decided that 900 bhp/ton was too insane for the roads...

It makes me laugh to think how the anti-car lobby would have reacted had TVR launched the speed12 - 900 odd BHP per ton.

I would think the Zonda wold pull away, certainly above 120 mph...the car has been designed specifically for this & has been tested extensively.I recall when EVO mag took a Tuscan S to try to max it on the autobahn, resulting in the front end splitter falling off...Peter Wheeler seemed to give the impression the car had not been stress tested to this extent.. The Tuscan would be great fun up to 130..after that I really wouldn't wan't to be in one when aerodynamic forces take over the game.

Had my Tuscan up to 170 at Elvington and it felt extremely stable even under subsequent heavy braking. In a drag race the key is going to be getting power down on the road without breaking traction. I know the Tuscan has no real driver assistance here but does the Zonda any traction control electronics ? If it does it is bound to win......M

Having the engine in the middle will also help in resisting wheelspin.

Zonda every time i think, irrespective of traction control or not. That's not to say the tvr isn't a very fast car...

If it was someone else's money, i'd take the zonda, but if i had a suitcase with a "zondas" worth of cash in it i'd have an f40 plus something sensible like an S6, pay off my mortgage AND have some left over for tyres and fuel .

If it was someone else's money, it would have to be a Pike's Peak Spec Audi Sport quattro (the short wheelbase group B jobbie) and some extra brown rubber safety pants - 1000BHP anyone?

Not quite the case, they had reached somewhere between 150-160mph when they noticed heavy traffic in front of them. So they braked very hard, as a result the nose of the car dipped savagely and the front splitter met the tarmac with a loud bang as it was ripped away.

TVR should have tested the Tuscan to make sure this didn't happen. It's a shame, and I love TVRs, but why do they often go wrong in magazine tests? I'll probably get flamed for this, but come on guys.....splitters shouldn't get ripped off cars at any speed, it's dangerous if nothing else.

I'm more than happy to carry out the experiment; pass me the Tuscan, Zonda and Bruntingthorpe please.

All in the interests of science you understand....

Tuscan six...I hear you,,,so there is something learnt here,do not upset the stability of the car by braking in case you damage the front end...goes back to the original point of letting customers do there own high speed testing at their own risk..
Sounds fun though!

Boring.
Give it 4 turbochargers and then put the engine in a caterham. Or one of those 4WD caterham replicas from TIGER i think.

Well aside from PW's comments in EVO this month about the Speed 12, I can only say that I saw Tiff try and drive one up the hill at Goodwood Festival of Speed a couple of years back, and he could hardly keep it on the island - everytime the car reached about 3,000rpm the wheels span up like crazy! A mental car...

Pagani Zonda although the Tuscan S would never be far behind. Zonda versus T440R however could b a different matter - roughly the same top speeds (220 for Zonda, 215 for T440R), 0-60 the same and both sub 8-sec to 100mph. Could be a good road test!
