The one where the guy brakes and then ploughs on 30 metres into the kid.
Am I the only person who is thinking why did the twat lock up his brakes and then do nothing about it?
They could equally change the tag line to 'if he had had ABS, or known how to control his car, he'd have stopped here 10 metres before'.
I don't agree with speeding in a 30, but this sensationalist crap only serves to discredit them.
Couldn't agree more. How do they expect us to take the campaign seriously?
Perhaps it's aimed at people like the Golf driver I followed into work this evening who did 40mph regardless of whether they were on an open country road or in the middle of a town!!!
(And who presumably doesn't know how to brake properly either)

why is the advert a lie? not all cars stop the same, and reaction times need to be taken into account. Im sure a 25yr old driving a car with discs all round and 4 pots with ABS would stop better than granny in her 1992 1.0l micra...and I'd like to bet a large percentage of drivers would lock up if a kid suddenly jumped out in front.
I thought I heard somewhere that the ad is based on the figures in the highway code (cos its funded by the gov) so the car was made to stop as per a ford anglia (the car the figures in the highway code is based on) hence the bullcrap.

The kid was in the middle of the road when the car hit him, the car started to brake well before he got there. The kid surly would have had time to get from one side to the other, or turn back. Why was he in the middle of the road. Not quite sure what my point is, but i did have one after i saw the add earlier.
I prefere the drunk driver add, the one where you presume he is going to hiy the cyclist, but he has a head on crash instead, much more dramatic.

Most dramatic advert I saw was where the toddler was playing in the garden (fenced borders) camera kept cutting to a guy driving, something happened, guy rolled the car through the fence, into the garden and on top of the toddler, much more dramatic than "front wheels locked, rears merrily ploughing along as usual" rubbish.

theres a bizzare speeding add in NZ at the moment.Total shock tactics.
A guy with his kids in the back runs into the back of a car cos' hes not watching what hes doing,too fast,half asleep,whatever.Big crash shown from the eyes of the driver....all goes quiet after the initial impact,then...a girls body smashes onto his windscreen,pressumably from the car infront that he hit, hitting a pedestrian.Can't quite make up my mind as to wether its a good advert or not,looks like its fresh out of hollywood.I dare say it would never see British tv as there would be a glut of people sueing for PTSD compensation.

We all know by experience that the rear brakes are most likely to lock because of the weight distribution going onto the front axle when you brake hard. 80-90% on the fron axle, 10-20% rear.
They've doctored the brakes.

not only have they disabled the rear brakes, but surely they've locked the front ones, messed around with the suspension so it looks like its braking and are towing it, or using a winch???
i've locked up in my car before, and seen cars lock up and they don't look like that nissan sunny...
i also agree, the drink driving ad with the kid on the bike and the drive tired add when the bloke flips his mondeo on the motorway are much more effective, and more real imo.

Erm, isnt this why they put disks on the front, drums on the back, and isnt it generally setup so the front is more likly to lock rather than the back. so that its less likly to lose the back end round a corner while braking. I have seen a few cars lock up, and the front wheels lock, the back don't. I thought it was designed like that for a reason. Could be wrong but I did expect the front to lock, not the back, however i do understand the point about weight distrabution.
This is all based on a average road car.
Call me a cynic, but it just doesn't look at all real. If you look carefully, you can see that although the front wheels are locked solid, the smoke isn't coming from the tyre, but is offset slightly and artificially blown out sideways. The distribution of the smoke isn't consistent with the motion of the car. I'd say the car is being dragged along by a winch, with appropriate retouching of course, and a smoke generator is mounted just behind the static front tyre.
What really irritates me is that, as a child, my parents always told me that cars are bloody dangerous and so I'd be better off staying out of their way. If I got hit, it'd be my fault. But now it seems that the little darlings have every right to play in the road and we should be on constant lookout.
I'm not advocating speeding in a 30 limit, of course, but it would be better off if children were educated, too.

Because ads are repeated they lose their effect very rapidly. I remember the first time I saw the ad about a kid in the back seat not belting up and killing his mum in the front by headbutting her when she braked. Now that did shock the first time I saw it but subsequent showings had not impact (sic).
Now, what HAS had an impact is the guy who fell asleep at the wheel of his Range Rover and ploughed down the raliway embankment derailing a train and killing many people (cant rememebr how many).
And the reason he did this? Cos he was chatting on the web half the night.

I'd like to bet that most cars these days have ABS, and that steering around the little bastard would have helped.
Not really sure that I condone these continually escalating shock tactics in advertising. The fact that they have to make them more graphic each time just goes to show how we are getting less sensitive each time they escalate. Bloody advertising =/
Agree with all the comments about inaccuracy of the ad, reality of a car with ABS stopping quicker, kids shouldn't be in the road anyway.
However, hasn't the ad served its purpose in so far as it has made people, including car-savvy petrolheads and numptys alike, think about the results of stacking into a kid at whatever speed?
If it has made just one person get a better car with ABS, get their brakes checked, slow down a bit, watch the road more carefully or whatever, then surely there is some merit in it??
