Three years ago I bought my first car on a saturday, the following Friday I drove out of car park straight into a car parked opposite - £700 for a new front end for me, £800 for the bodywork on the car i crashed into - i was fully comp - but excess of £300 - plus next premium...ouch.
So you are not alone
So you are not alone
We've all done stupid things Dennis. My father and I did a joint numpty:
Me still wet behind the ears driver (long time ago), driving mother and father to party on the understanding that I get car for evening. Its in a village and we don't know where the house is so we drive through end up on a narrow country road and having to turn around. We pass a gateway to a field. Scene set:
My father "reverse into that and turn around"
Me "It looks a bit tight to me"
My father "I'll guide you, no problem"
Me "okay"
My Father "Keep going, keep going plenty of room...." screach!!!! "whoa whoa!"
I stop get out lovely rusty scratch on rear wing.
My father "you've scratched it"
Me "you were guiding me!!"
Both total numpties especially as when we checked the address we hadn't gone wrong at all

On Cheltenham one way system (outside town hall if you care), beeped and generally was antisocial to the first of two busses parked in a stupid place. Screeched past, and then drove straight into the back of the second bus.
Reversed my dad's car down the drive and into the garden wall.
Went forwards into small garage forecourt, then needed to reverse back out. Clumped their 23.5 hour recovery truck i'd just driven past about 5 seconds before.
Mrs006 once reversed her car into a car across the road. Then did the same with the courtesy car, into the courtesy car of the one she reversed into the first time.
The award for most damage caused in a single stupid moment also goes to my better (allegedly) half. In the new house, the cellar is being made into the garage. Big hole in garden was dug, big hole in wall was bashed. Then we had to see where the cars would fit. So in she goes with hers, a bit of arsing about (including clouting my car) then reversed into one of the pilars supporting the ceiling, and down it comes, kitchen attatched. Nice one.
Now just remind me why i'm still with her....
edited to say: coz she's loaded that's why

well, this wasn't me but, I was parked up at a boat ramp waiting for my turn to put the boat in the water when we all notice numpty who has just put jet ski in and has forgotten to put handbrake on properly so that after he gets outto release latch the car and trailer roll into the water

Nobody tried to help for several minutes due to ROFLAO....turns out he's done this before!!!
BTW Smeagol, dad's are great for blaming you when you've done what they asked, mine told me I was a git for listening to him when he told me not to buy a 246Dino just before they went through the roof, saw same car I wanted for $25K go for $250K+ the following year----DOH!!

Another classic from a long time ago, whilst return from a late one at work I was turning into our street. Saw a couple of mates stood at a near by bus stop and waved. But I failed to see the car park at the entrance to our street and ran straight into the back of it. naturally my mates where very supportive, NOT !!
Think most of us have done or nearly done this one at sometime in our driving life.
Waiting to join a roundabout, behind a Robin Reliant. See him pull forward as there is a gap - so I check traffic on my right and see it is clear so start to join the roundabout only to discover he bottled it. One smashed up Robin and a dented Escort.

I did exactly the same thing at a traffic light filter lane on the A10 in Enfield.
I was following a mate, who was in his Manta A series, I had my GT/E.
He stopped, whilst joining the A10, I hit the throttle thinking he had gone.
He ended up writing his car off in the end instead of getting it repaired.
I got mine repaired, the old Manta was strong at the front end!!

yeah everyone has a silly story to tell, i was tired one night after work and fancied some instant food (about 11pm) so drive over to McDonalds, can't be arsed to turn into the car park properly, i ended up mounting the kerb and hit a wooden post...
i was too tired to reverse so i just dropped the clutch until the post relented and went on my merry way...

During my University year out, about seven years ago, I had to run an errand for my boss first thing in the morning, in his Passat. Being half asleep, I opened the door and reached in to start the car before taking my coat off and getting in. Now, not only did my boss have the bad habit of occasionally leaving the car in gear with the handbrake off, but a strange glitch of this Passat's ECU meant that now and again it would tick over at anything up to 3000rpm.
Imagine my surprise when, at the very moment I turned the key, the Passat fired up and took off down the trading estate. I grabbed onto the door and tried to jump in, but my feet hit all the pedals at once and, as the throttle is usually the lightest one, we accelerated even more rapidly before making solid contact with a Fiesta. As the Fiesta's owner had left it in neutral, but again with the handbrake off, it took off too - straight into the back of a Golf.
The two VWs suffered lightly damaged bumpers, but the Mk1 Fiesta was written off. I have never started a car without being in it since that day. My only crash, but bloody embarrasing all the same.

When i was young and had no sense, i was the proud owner of a 1976 Morris Marina Van.
It cost me 40 squids cos it was droppin to bits, and i spent countless happy hours repairing and painting it an painting and repairing it.
Id only been driving for a month or so and had gone out for a run when upon turning into a carpark(short cut) i didnt see a wall and went thru it. It was only a little wall, bout 3 feet high, but it buggered up my wing nicely. DOH!!!
About 6 months later i was on another car park( all mine happen on these) looking for a parking space, in vain i might add.
I came to go round a tight corner and found i couldnt make the turn, so put it into reverse to find it had sheared off the reverse idler support pin.
So after a coupla seconds stirring the gears and finding no reverse i decide to get out.
Big mistake as id left it in 1st gear, and as i stepped outa the car, off she went forwards into a nice new "D" reg Nissan Micra.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!
Havent done it since....

I have several cars, and on several occasions I have managed to get into one of them and reverse into another of them, hence damaging two of my own cars at the same time.
Once I managed to do it with all the neighbours watching.

I had the reverse of this at a set of traffic lights. Guy in front of me moves forward a bit, I lift off the handbrake (in an auto) and apply the footbrake smartish as the guy in front stalls. The 205 behind me ploughs into the rear of the XJ-S (with the brakes on a fairly immovable object). Result - 2 bent bumper brakets and a bit of scuffed plastic for me (look underneath and there is a 4"x2"U section beam for him to hit) however plastic, glass and water all over the place from the front of his car.

PS Denny does that mean you get the replacement van you were after ?
Driving down a narrow road with parked cars on either side once in my Spitfire with a mate, and I let some Tommy Tools have right of way. They took the piss and drove really slowly up the road. Meanwhile I'm sat there getting really pi$$ed off. He pulls up at the side of me and spouts out some nonsense for no reason.
Red rag to a Bull, I jumps out of the car and chases them up the road, realising the handbrake didn't work and the car was in neutral. I heard the yelps from my mate and I turned around to see a Spitfire with the drivers door wide open dissapearing down the road, with a sweating bloke in the passenger side desperatly pulling on the handbrake!
Classic that one, the best bit was you sat so low in those cars that he couldn't reach over to the pedals!

Mate of mine had just spent 9 hours driving a Sierra taxi; got into his Escort at 3AM and every so carefully reversed into a skip.
I once reversed a van into the only other car in the car park, and an armoured van into a Portakabin, leaving the outline of the van in the wall.
Brother was late for work one day, hoofing through the estate in a Fiat Regatta: the car went all light on a ripple in the road and smacked into a parked Cavalier. Then, as he was knocking on the door to own up, a car came round the corner and ran into his Fiat.
Glad I didn't have to sort that one out...

My Dad parked up and left off the handbrake. It was on a slight slope and the first he new about impending doom was when the Fiat Bravo came through the front window of the chemist shop he was collecting his prescrption from.
This all happened in a sleepy village 30 miles north of Inverness and it made the front page of the local paper.
And to think I probably have at least some of his genes...

Driving my mum escort as a teenager, smoking a cig with all the windows open as they didn't know I smoked. Just seen planes trains and automobiles so knew not to chuck my cig out of the window with the back window open as it was bound to land on the back seat and start a fire. So I threaded my hand through the seat belt and flicked it out of the back window. Unfortunately I was concentrating on getting the cig out of the window so much I forgot to keep looking forward. Next thing I knew I felt a big bang, looked forward and the road wasn't there, just the ploughed field I landed in. No damage but was an hour late picking up my girlfriend due to clearing off a significant amount of field from the bottom of the car I collected finding the gate with a stick.
