So BLiars mentor Lord Irvine is to get a pay rise worth more than a lot of nurses, teachers etc.. annual salary. So is he worth it?

This is the man who spent an indecently large sum of our money on wallpaper and who thinks burglars should be let off with a smack on the wrist.

I think rather than get a pay hike he should be fired / shot but that's just my personal opinion......

Leave him alone. If it wasn't for these old crusties what the hell would the Sun write about.

Next you'll be saying we should pension off all the actors in CrossRoads next (who earn more than this old crusty does...)

I'm trying to work you out Mr Joust. You read the Sun and watch something called Crossroads (which I'm lead to believe is a daytime televisual serial) and yet you drive a Noble. Readership of the Sun suggests you lack the intellectual stimuli to read a proper paper and viewing daytime TV suggests a sedentary life which is contradicted by your choice of vehicular transport.

Are you a semi retired car thief with a penchant for topless young persons of the female persuasion? (This would seem to be contradicted by previous posts).

I can only assume therefore that you are takin' the piss.

Lord Irvine......hmmmmm what to say about him....what to say about any of our "Lords".....hmmm..difficult one this is.....
(engaging rant mode)....Complete w*nkers, idle old gits, sleeping on the job, making arsehole decisions that make no sense for those in the "real" world.
Paid loads of wonga for sitting on their baggy arses all day and occasionally bellowing "yeh yeh yeh yeh"..tossers.
I dont see the point of these old basts, i mean theyre nearly dead already int they?
Turf em all in and spend the money saved on a hitman for the house of commons i say..."yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh".........(disengaging rant mode).
Yer know, i always feel so much "lighter" after a rant...

In answer to the thread title:-

NO

Editited to add some arguement. Manufacturing is on its knees, the Government has a lot of explaining to do to teachers nurses etc, and there is always the issue of those pesky Firefighters.

I know that we have to balance government salaries with those in the real world, but I believe that these guys have taken the p1ss a little. Also, there are points in that politics is a vocation, so doesn't necessarily claim the same salaries as other industries (after all, engineers don't get the same as bankers etc), and there is big public speaking money to be had afterwards if they haven't made too many enemies anyway

Too right, dazren.

The disturbing thing about this man is that he accepted a pay cut of 50% to take this position of power.

In other words, he's paying £250k a year out of his own pocket in order to wield POWER.

What's all that about, then................???

news is that he has rejected this pay rise and asked for it to be put in line with other public sector workers.
Question is, would he have done this if there hadnt been all of this attention from the media? I wonder
