I think it's a shame that society is so fond of promoting the continuing over population of this and every other country
From the time people become young adults they start to come under pressure, this pressure increases as they get older. Their parents say 'when are you going to make us grandparents then?'. Tesco says 'have some sprogs and you can have one of these really good parking places', the Government says 'have children and we will give you lots of tax cuts and other benefits'

IMO, If people want children (particularly PHers who are a cut above the average pleb) then good for them.
However, it is a fact that people who choose not to have any kids are viewed as impotent, selfish, dysfunctional or otherwise somehow less wholesome than those who take the default route & choose to make like the flies. This particularly affects women who choose not to breed.
People with children get positive discrimination.. sooo.. well, we've done positive discrimination before haven't we..

In McD's yesterday we even agreed we rather sit next to a smoker in there than a Sunday parent taking his/her kids for a meal

I hate going around Tesco, with or without kid. I strongly recommend their internet shopping. fan-bloody-tastic, no hordes of unwashed in the way
Also no kid moaning about wanting another toy, and feeling obliged to get him one as compensation for being forced to go around tesco for an hour and a half. It is in Tesco's interest to encourage parents to shop there though, becausue parents spend shedloads of money (I tell you from personal experience!) and if preferential parking gets them there rather than Safeway that's why they do it. Nothing to do being nice etc.
Oh, also they probably half expect to be sued for forcing some dull-witted parent to make their child cross a road withou looking, where it promptly got run over by a mobile house driven by another dull-witted parent too busy paying attention to the noisy brats in the back.

We used to be dead against having kids, we changed our minds. Some of you will be the same some won't it really does not matter as neither are better or worse as a result.

I think more orphans should be adopted. There are millions of orphans throught Russia who badly need people to look after them.
Having seen it with my own eyes I see the need for action. For you guys who have not experienced it you will probably read this and not think twice but the situation is dreadful.

Nice to have my own opinions confirmed! My wife & I seem to have fewer and fewer married friends who aren't now contemplating breeding.
I've nothing against kids - we've spent most Friday nights in the last eight years looking after our nephew(mind you, we can always give him back on Saturday!!) -, or parents, and I'm sure we'll remain friends with those couples who are blessed by the patter of tiny feet, but it is really odd how you feel the pressure of duty to breed.
Our parents are pretty good (though I have a single mate who's folks are, by way of badgering him to settle down and marry, angling for Grandchildren) but media still portray the 'ideal lifestyle' as one where, ultimately, happy people will marry and then procreate.
Narrow minded crap!

Child-free here, too and happy with it. As with others here, all our children have engines and either two or four wheels.

You remain and glare at the questioner saying "Thank you VERY much! NOW see what you've done". You then leave the room too. Subject guaranteed never to come up ever again...
We've tried it - it works.

We've tried it - it works.
In my experience having a single offspring doesn't overly impinge on the important things in life (cars, bikes, fun in general - in fact it will add fun),but my observations of others who have produced more than one leads me to the conclusion that further procreation will result in my life being completely dominated by offspring, which would become tiresome.
For those of you who may be considering producing one to satisfy demanding would-be grandparents then think again. The pressure will only increase - "Oh, but she can't be an only child ! when are you having your second ?" etc etc.
