I was in town on my bike, crusiing round practicing wheelies while waiting till I had to go to work, and on the Cafe street was a nice selection of touring bikes (VFR, BMW etc.), a MINT '66 E-Type 4.2 *drool*, and a '33 Ford V8 Coupe, AND...

a GENUINE 1931 Bentley Eight-Litre!!!
On the ROAD!
The crowd it attracted was enourmous, although I was certainly the youngest by 20 or so years enthusing over the behemoth! MASSIVE engine, 3" of almost straight through exhaust, a full spare set of spark plugs in the engine bay, belted cord tyres, aero-like gauges with a 4000rpm speedo, WOW!!! Amazing piece of machinery, I have a feeling this the only one in NZ?

I'm sorry I didn't have enough cash on me at the time, I checked my wallet and thought "wheres the nearest place I can buy a disposable camera???" but to no avail...

I went to the annual Brooklands Society meet a couple of years ago (at what's left of the circuit) when the featured marque was Bentley. There was a lot of impressive machinery on display but nothing compared to the experience of the single-seater Barnato-Hassan special thundering up the test hill. The noise and the smell of the Castrol R was superb, the back end was fishtailing all over the place and the driver had to come off the power before he was even halfway up to avoid being airborne at the top. Awesome.
