Win 98 - graphics settings fcuked

all of a sudden graphics defaulted to 640x480. I tried to rinstall drivers, seemd to work, now it just crashes when I try to change graphics resolution.

Is there a way to boot W98 in "safe mode" so I can try (again) to reinstall the correct drivers?

F5 on start up IIRC?

As its starting up press F8 and it will give you safe mode and other options. It need pressing before the windows logo screen, can't remember exactly when so I just keep pressing it till it goes to the safe mode options.

Press it when the white on black progress bar is on-screen IIRC

Reboot
Install the card using 'Standard VGA' driver
Reboot
Install the card using the correct driver

Usually works

Alternatively get it up in safe mode then goto the device manager, select the VGA card and hit remove.

Reboot the machine and it will try to find it.

no it didn't. Every time I clicked on display -> settings the system would crash.

That was the solution. God only knows, there were 5 (!!!) graphics adapters there. Deleted all of them except the right one and - it works again.

Thank you very very much, all of you. I'm a Unix man, not so hot on Windows.
