Feeling let down.....

Fellow Pistonheader's.....I hope you can help.

Mrs Twin Turbo's Golf GTi seems to be suffering from a slow punture. However, I've only recently put on a new set of Avon's (the original's were badly worn).

Now, the original driver's side front tyre always needed air every couple of weeks, but now it appears the new tyre needs the same. I'm hoping that when the new tyes were fitted, new valves were fitted at the same time (but I can't be sure).

Do you think it's worth me getting a new valve anyway, or are there any other checks I can do? I hoping it's not a porous (sp?) alloy that's that problem.....

Hi Paul,
I know what I would do, take it down to you local tyre fitters. Take off offending wheel, pump it up to 60PSI and put it in a water tank. The appearance of any bubbles will determine where it's leaking.

The problem could be emanating from a dirty valve seat or damaged or dirty bead seal on the wheel. Either way if there's an air leak then it should show up in the water tank.

Also if it is an alloy wheel the wheel itself could be leaking.

I had a similar problem on a company pool car, turned out the alloy had a dirty great crack through it
