Accident kills racing driver

Australian Peter Brock dies rallying

Peter Brock: 1945-2006
Peter Brock: 1945-2006
Australian racing driver Peter Brock has been killed in a racing accident.

The prolific motorsport icon was driving a Daytona Coupé and hit a tree at speed, wounding his co-driver and sustaining mortal injuries. Co-driver Mick Hone is said to be in a stable condition.

Western Australian police said that Brock lost control of his vehicle on a bend and collided with a tree while driving in the Targa West '06 rally.

Brock led the Holden factory team to nine Bathurst 1000 victories during the 70s and 80s. Brock retired from racing in 1994, only to return three years later, running two more Bathurst's and a number of enthusiast events, like the Targa West.

Our sympathies go to Peter's relatives and to all who knew and loved him.

RIP Brockie. Grew up watching him win Bathurst time and again. He was never my favourite driver, but he was damned good..... ad for who he was as a person, you'll meet few nicer in any sport, he was a true legend, a gentleman and will be sadly missed by us all down under.

Very sad news. I remember the incar footage of him at Bathurst driving like a man possesed whilst having banter via radio mike to the commentators, taking the mick with out of his fellow drivers with typical Aussie drawl, with things like

Commentator - "Peter, XXXX in car number 6 is lapping 2 seconds a lap quicker than you, does this worry you?"

Brock - "Nah, the fat b'stard cant keep that pace up for long" hehe

A legend

Was Peter Brock the Peter Brock from Brock/Superperformance Daytona Coupe?
He has designed the Body.
The Daytona Coupe is powered by Roush Ford Engines and not Chevy.

Legend.
Another here who grew up on Bathurst & Brockie.

I seem to be losing more old heros than gaining new ones these days
