Scooby insurance advice please!

One of the geezers at work wants to return himself, for a fairly modest budget, to the not insubstantial drama of WRX or possibly even STi ownership.

His dilemma is a common one; he can afford the car but is smarting at the insurance quotes and frankly, I don't blame him (£2500-£3k for a sub-£10k car?)

He's 29, 4 years NCB and bears no resemblance to Ali G.

I'd be most grateful if somebody could rustle up a suggestion or three so that (a) he'll cheer the hell up & (b) I can occasionally pinch his keys!

I've just been searching around for a decent quote for a Noble, to replace the P1. The best package received, and one I think I will go for is from a company in Machester called Auto Torque.

The operate a "performance car insurance scheme".

The quote I received is backed by Royal and Sun Alliance, so seems to be just the ticket, and also includes track day use.

my mcrae was 650 to insure with a 500 excess with a cat 2 immobiser and i'm 30 but live in a low risk area

Tell him to do a search on www.scoobynet.co.uk, look in the forums as there have been some lengthy discusions on there in Ref to various companys, I pay £600 for my 02 WRX and reckon I could have got it cheaper than that if I looked about.

My Y reg WRX costs me £650 to insure fully comp with full claims bonus. Had a claim last year but the Protected No Claims Bonus kicked in and saved me! That costs an extra £100 a year. Insured with Direct Line, car garaged in safe area, and I am 37

I got insurance from Dial Direct, using Churchill, at £780, parked on the road, cat1 alarm, 32, with 5yrs ncb protected. They were £200 cheaper than the next quote and £1000 cheaper than the worst. Being under 30 may kill the plan for your mate tho.

So far, he's managed a quote of a bag of sand from Tesco's insurance people, which seems to have re-energised his dilithium crystals somewhat!

The only problem is that he reckons he's now seen an EVO IV for £11k! (Groan!)
