Camcorder -which one and where from
Discussion
Its time to buy a toy, and I would like to get a Camcorder, preferable soemthing small and easy to use.
Has any one bought one recently that they rate as good, and where did you get it?
I want it for my other half to video stuff at work.
But also I have a performance car day to book, and would like a good camera to capture the day with.
Any suggestions, I have been looking at the JVC-DVX 707, but only because it looked good

I bought the JVC tiny one (mini DV, size of a packet of fags), cant remember the number for sure but I think its GR-DVP7.
Fantastic, and it takes stills using a SD (secure digitial) memory card. You get a 8 Meg card with the camera but I bought a 64Meg. On holiday in USA got over 300 pictures on the card (also recorded over nine hours of video)
Its is so small it fits in a tiny belt pack (LowPro DRES 25) with a spare bat and tape. Love it!

Things may have changed, but when I was looking, I was warned about problems with JVC if you want to upload using firewire (ilink in sony speak) to a PC, and other 'funnies'.
The Cannon MV5i (I think!) is supposed to be good, but look at

for good advice.

Not sure on the budget yet. I had a bonus yesterday, and the thought was pay the mortgage and spend some on a camcorder, for the cars of course and something the other half can use in school.
It is a bit of a toy really, but I thought it is about time I bought one.

Sony TRV950 is the business. Hope to be getting one soon. Empire direct charge £1500, but Jessops will price match to them, so go to Kingston jessops.
Or get in touch if you want to have a chat in more detail.
