Reading the motoring supplement last night from (i think) the Telegraph and saw an article about some counties using CHILDREN as traffic wardens! Apparently they approach parents who have stopped to drop their classmates off and give them a bollocking, and in some places unleash paintball guns at them! If they shot paint at my car theyd need surgery to remove the paintgun! If that werent bad enough, some places are using kids (im talking 10,12yo's here btw) as speedcops - one story was about how they saw a woman in a MINI come round the corner at the FAR end of the road, and she was doing 36mph. So...they gave her the option - £60 fine or a ten minute 'interview session' in the local village hall. In this session they bombarded her with questions like "what would you tell my parents if you ran me over?" and "do you know how much longer it takes to stop from 35 than 30?" etc etc. Apparently the poor woman left in floods of tears - for driving 6mph over the limit, nowhere near the actual school. I think its ridiculous.

Thoughts?

It's those sandalistas at it again. Apparently these kids also draw fake speeding tickets and give them out to motorists. What happens when some yobbo in a stolen car gets out and punches the kids, and their minder? A stupid idea, and probably best to ask the kids for a calibration certificate for the speed gun, and tell them you want to go to court over it. That should shut the little ****ers up! I bet they don't target their own mother's 4x4's either!

If they put a single blob of paint on my car, I'd grab 'em, march them straight into the head teacher's office, and play merry feckin' hell about attitudes to property, endangering children etc. I would also get the little shits to clean my car, and if there were paintwork damage, the school would be paying for repairs. Anyway, are the parents doing something illegal, in taking their kids to school? Things like this make my blood boil big time!!!

That sounds like that "So you think your a good driver?" program from last year. Nick Ferrari (TWAT!) stops a woman in a mini (with the BiB) and Offer her a fine and points or a meeting with the kiddies.

Personally as long as its only outside schools and the Polise do the stops I think putting Ms "white rabbit" Mini driver (I'm late, I'm Late) in front of a load of kids might give her some perspective.

I'm all for slowing people down where appropriate eg schools, town centres etc and if it takes some emotional blackmail to do that then so be it.

In fact I think that each local government should HAVE to put up speed cameras - with film in at all times - outside all the schools in their authority before they can start putting them up ANYWHERE else.

Edited to just mention once agin that Nick ferrari is a twat.

I wouldn't worry about the paintball guns, that will only go on until some lentilist (sorry planetdave!) makes a big fuss declaring that exposure to guns will psychologically scar the kids for life.

Oh, and I would charge the kids and school with criminal damage if they paintballed my car, whether I was committing an offence or not. This is a vigilante action, and not legal, whether sheperded by a copper or not!

Mind you yuo could have some real fun with the kids in the meeting - (Puts on little boys voice)"What would you say to my parents if you ran me over?"

A - "Hello, I've just killed your kid 'cos he was fackin' jaywalking in front of my car, and you are fackin' shit parents for not controlling your kids!"

That should break up the meeting, smartish, and no fine!! Suits me!

A few weeks ago i was driving thru a local village, at about midnight IIRC, lights on full, nice clear night, good visibility - so i was doing about 35mph. Next thing i know some kid has jumped out from behind her wall hiding place, hopped on her skateboard and casually wheeled herself out in the path of my car!! I JUST managed to stop - and she just stepped back out of the way with a huge smirk on her face. Little bitch. I spoke to a friend who lives around there and he said "yeah, little bastards play chicken round there all the time!"

WTF was a 10/12 yo kid doing out at that time anyway?! let alone playing bloody chicken!

I also read the article, it was in the Sunday Times. I'd listen to what the kids have to say, answer their questions honestly and then ask them a few of my own. For instance, what if anything do you know about the green cross code? Have you ever been shown how to cross the road? and, have you ever heard of Tuffty?

Its like someone said a while ago on another thread in here; 20 years ago we had the Green Cross Code (Darth Vader in green and white lycra for those too young to remember) to teach kids some personal responsibility when crossing the road. Now its all down to the drivers to look out for every muppet in creation and taking the blame no matter what and who is really at fault.

Always thought it was quite funny because squirrels tend to just run backwards and forwards in the road til someone squashes them...
