This morning I go out to my garage only to have the key snap and stick in the lock... So Taxi to the office this morning. Get to the office, work is bordering on insane with 3 million things to do before 12pm.

Phone don't stop ringing.

Can anyone provide any stress relief tactics before I go completely mad

1. Think of the increasing number of disenfranchised folks who would be delighted to have a job with that level of stress, or in fact any job at all?

2. Ease back on the caffeine

3. Delegate

Hope you get over this hump

ooops... my bad! Muggins here got the wrong end of the stick.. I thought the key had snapped in the CAR'S lock..! (hey, that's a result!)

er... I could get one of the "lads" to open it for you...

Alternatively... get a piece of A4 paper... draw a circle, write "bang here" in the circle, stick on the wall and bang your head in the target... like this ->

Do what I did, hand your notice in. The best stress reliever and free as well. Never looked back.

[Please - no one point out the obvious problems with this plan. The whole point is to be spontaneous and courageous and your just reward will be forthcoming - I hope - as do my wife and increasing number of children. LOL)

In fact, do you need to sub some work out to me - I need the money. What do you do?

I would love to hand my notice and go live a free life for a while but its my company. Doh!

Go into either your post room or technical services department. Find a delivery and get some of the bubble wrap the parcel was contained.

Sit back, pop a couple and watch the stress melt away. Instant regression for a new generation!

I can think of more interesting things to do in the stationery cupboard than hunt for bubble wrap

The punch bag thing is a bloody great idea. I'm into Thai Boxing and its very good stress releif.

With it being your company, isn't there somewhere you could put one up????

I'd love one in our office that I could open up on a couple of times a day, just to remind me that I'm still alive and not slipped into a coma at my desk.

Ah, well the benfits of being your own master mean that you can either:
a) sack someone you've been meaning to for a while, but couldn't quite find the moment
b) walk out amongst those who have some respect for you and do your best David Brent dancing impression
c) both, simultaneously

.......and if you need a sales consultant/interim mgr to tackle any of your issues, then I was S.D. in a (previously!) FTSE100 telecoms/network integrator, who woke up in a rut one day that I decided to get out of.....

Not a bad idea... Problem is we just rent space from the airline we are currently working for so I think they might not appreciate a large punch bag suspended from their roof.

But at home, thats a different story!

Now the David Brent dance is a cracking idea, I am not sure the Germans would understand but I'm sure that that would add to it.

How about this... you KNOW you're living in 2003 when...

1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.

4. You e-mail your mate who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends is that they do not have e-mail addresses.

6. When you go home after a long day at work you still answer the phone in a business manner.

7. When you make phone calls from home, you accidentally insert a "9" to get an outside line.

8. You've sat at the same desk for four years and worked for three different companies.

10. Your CV is on a disk in your pocket.

11. You learn about your redundancy on the 11o'clock news.

12. Your biggest loss from a system crash was when you lost all of your best jokes.

13. Your boss doesn't have the ability to do your job.

14. Contractors outnumber permanent staff and are more likely to get long-service awards.

15. Board members salaries are higher than all the Third World countries annual budgets and GDP combined.

16. Interviewees, despite not having the relevant knowledge or experience, terminate the interview when told of the starting salary.

17. Free food left over from meetings is your staple diet.

18. Your boss gets a brand-new state-of-the-art laptop with all the latest features, but you have time to go for lunch while yours boots up.

19. Being sick is defined as you can't walk or you're in hospital.

20. There's no money in the budget for the five permanent staff your department desperately needs, but they can afford four full-time management consultants advising your boss's boss on strategy.

21. Your relatives and family describe your job as "works with computers".

AND THE CLINCHERS ARE...

22. You read this entire list, and kept nodding and smiling.

23. As you read this list, you think about forwarding it to your friends.

24. You got this from a friend that never talks to you anymore, except via the internet or e-mail... oh, and to send you jokes from the net.

25. AND YOU ARE TOO BUSY TO NOTICE THAT THERE WAS NO NUMBER 9.

Nice one Podie, particularly 22-25. I can say yes to nearly all of them.
