Only 13% - we're being hit for 18% - LibDem

A big increase in NY (north yorkshire) police budget, so perhaps they'll start dealing with burglaries, petty (but very expensive car) vandalism etc

8% with us. Naff council.
FYI planning desicion turned down by the planning commitee so local council leade, who favoured the plan, is going to "re-arrange" the commitee so it passes next time it is submitted unaltered.

In the interests of rampant Tory bias (), I must interject to clarify the political spread in this region.

Although the council leader wears a blue rossette, I'm sure Labour has more seats in Cumbria but the Tories formed an unholy alliance with the yellow perils to run things (which I find worrying in itself, come to think of it).

Thus, although this rise seems inconsistent with traditional conservative policies on tax, I feel sure that this is merely a diabolical compromise made to keep the eco-weeny Libyans happy!

Actually, although even a 1% rise would be scandalous, 13% doesn't rancour as much as some of the silly hikes across other northern zones.

Are all non-Nu-Labia councils being hit with large rises? Or, in other words, are Central Government cutting 'subsidies' to certain Local Government bodies?

Is this as opposed or in addition to the proposed extra charge for refuse collection?

Matt.

Its universal across the country as far as I am aware.
It is a stealth tax via the treasury. Brown has decided to reduce funding to local authorities to save the treasury money, realising that the flack will be taken by the local authorites when they have to hike substantial % increases to make up the shortfall from Govt.

Gordon Brown is using every type of shifty subversive way to appear to keep to manefesto promises about tax not rising but is still managing to do it.

On top of this he's diverted millions of pounds from "good" councils to "bad" councils so penalising the ones that have already become more efficient. TW@T

Interesting that councils in the north are wacking on fat rises (over 10%). Down here in the south east the council justify their fat rise by saying all the government money is going to the midlands and north.
Just what the hell is going on here? Lots of big fat lies methinks.

What's going on is that councils in the South/South-East are predominantly Tory and the scummy Scottish tightwad is re-distributing grant money from these, mainly efficient local councils, to his Commie brethren who (poorly) run most of the councils in the North, using the 'South is rich, North is poor' old chestnut as a smokescreen - trying to make sure that he secures more votes in the North cos the South will never vote for the smarmy beancounting tosser anyway.
