Not sure if any of you have seen this before, but just read this on the Telegraph News site:

Stressed-out mothers driven to distraction in car
(Filed: 10/03/2003)

Nearly three in four mothers find driving their children around so stressful that they make mistakes at the wheel, a survey out today reveals.

One in four has been involved in an accident when a child has been with them, the poll from the Autoglass company found.

More than one in three mothers (35 per cent) have forgotten to belt their youngsters up, nearly half (47 per cent) have driven aggressively and 37 per cent have cut up other cars.

As they race between activities, 69 per cent regularly break speed limits and more than half (54 per cent) jump traffic lights.

Also, 79 per cent regularly take their eyes off the road to deal with children.

Based on findings from 500 mothers, the survey showed that mums make an average of 28 cars journeys a week, chauffeuring youngsters to and from a huge variety of activities including the school run.

Four in five mothers said driving with children in the car was a really stressful experience. One in three said children arguing in the back seat was a bigger road safety risk than dangerous driving conditions.

As many as 27 per cent of mothers drive children other than their own as often as five times a week.

So it's not always Speed's fault, hmm interesting!

Lucky they are all in 3 tonne 4x4s though so that they don't pay the consequences of their mistakes. Bad luck for anyone else who is said 4x4s crumple zone.

After succumbing to a sustained campaign by the village mothers to do a series of radar speed traps...according to the local police, 85% of those subsequently caught speeding were mothers on the way to or returning from the local school!

I'm even more scared. Hell I can't even see over the hedges they now put up near roundabouts to make people slow down on the approach

eek and double eek

Speeding is one thing, but jumping traffic light is seriously bad news. It doesn't bear thinking about what happens when a TVR gets T-boned by a Toyobushi Shocruiser...

YOu should all be ashamed of yourselves.

You cannot criticise mothers, unless of course they are single and working/under class mothers who live on sink estates.

Good well bred middleclass mothers are obviously beyond the pale, particularly those (husbands) that can afford nice 4x4 monsters.

Think of the Children.
It's obviously some one elses fault.

Mothers (of the middleclass variety) should be appluaded for the tireless thankless job they do, in fact next time a 4x4 with mother and sprogs in tow drives past and runs you off the road stop and put your hands together to show your appreciation and admiration.

We need more regulations, higher speed bumps closer together.

Same story in our village, 2/3 of the traffic on the morning is the sschool run, they insist on doing it cos the traffic is so busy yet if they all stopped then there would be hardly any.

Doh.
