I had my MFI wardrobes delivered yesterday. They seem ok today, as the fitter fits them, but the two bedside cabinets have no lids and are a different finish to the wardrobes.

The fact that theye are fitted a month late is also a nag
Then I watch this programme -as I always do - theyre inspiring - and all seems relevant once more

That guy was a little nieve to take on such a project as first build but he had a vision and was out to achieve.

If only I had managed to get that barn! Oh maybe one day.

Great programme which captures a host of emotions

Sorry to hear about the wardrobes!!

You're behind me in the queue for the barn though!!

Brilliant design for tonight though, v. ambitious build for a first time though - I want to see it if/when its finished.

I missed the last five minutes of the show, did he complete it or not? Looked like this guy was only half way there over a year after starting.

He was no where near completing it. He was also an idiot the way that roof was specified counting on the weather etc...

Feel sorry for him but he had it coming. Also annoyed he wouldn't reveal any build costs as thats hugely relevant.

I know mate, what a plank - fancy dreaming about something he really wanted and actually going out and having a bloody good go.

Thank the lord Alan of Nazereth we're all in our safe little council houses watching repeats of Stargate and Tricia.

Good God.

Good on him for having a go but I think I would have been a little less ambitious for my first project. I think a proffesional would have had a nightmare with that build.

I really wanted to dislike the guy, but looking at what he went through and seeing him trudging round the site with two ed ankles and still smiling made me admire him.
Naive yes, but balls the size of suitcases!
If only I had his vision and the willpower to follow it to the end.

Good call Scruff.

Yeah, hats off to the bloke, but having a custom made birch ply ceiling STILL open to the elements? Errr, I don't think so.

No doubt he'll get it done, but with a bit more planning he chould have had that roof on in the summer (or finished a lot more elsewhere on the house and waited a year).

A lobng time, but if something's going to be right, then you can wait - especially as he seemed to have THE MOST UNDERSTANDING MISSUS EVER!!

"I've just sold the house dear"

"Oh, well!"

Agree with all sentiments - he was just "having a go" so good luck to him - tried desperately but just could not dislike him - seemed such a nice bloke.

After the show I went online for the webchat with Kevin McCloud (and left shortly after as about 1300 people were vying for position) - apparently poor Tom has his arm in a sling at the moment as he broke it the other week! Is this man the unluckiest guy in the world or what?!!

I DO hope they show the finished article, and I hope he gets that roof sorted (although contrary to his comments in the show, I think he may be forced to paint the birch to cover all the watermarks - poor sod)

Whens the next series?

I'd have loved to have known how much it was costing, and how he was funding it?

Personally I thought he was a pompous twat who thought he could do it all himself because he thought he was so wonderful.

His wife struck me as being being TOO docile. Although living with someone so arrogant would drive you down in that kind of way.

I must admit to laughinh heartily when the roof got wrecked...

I admire his desire to build something unique but it was all looking a bit King Canute within weeks!

Im sure he said at the beginning he had £1 million for it (que austin powers close up)

Id love to know where he got the money from, the house he lived in showed no sign of frivolous spending.

The presenter, whats his name again, said 'he wont tell us the costs, but i cant see it costing much less than a million'

The presenter did say that he estimated the cost at around a million....

Tried to dislike the guy, but my admiration for the design and having the bottle to try it won in the end.

Go and look at the web site for the house at www.cloud8.org.uk there are regular updates with regard to progress etc.

Sorry to hear that he's broken his arm now - what more can go wrong?

IMHO the house was funded by the sale of a business: ie I've been working for x years doing this, and living in this house, I'm now rich let's build our dream home & have a clean start...? Sounds feasible? I know that's what I'd do.

Sold my house yesterday so really looking forward to the next project

The pumping station a couple of weeks ago was more my style, this was waaay out of my league £400k for a house just to knock it down

Maybe I should just get a flat and an Ultima

I say again "A man's gotta know his limitations"!

So he negotiated with 24 roofing contractors - I'm sure that wasn't in the build programme!

His enthusiasm is fine, self-made man etc, but his will to show he can get the best price would mean his build program is shot, and so little point in hiring anyone to manage it. So he can do it himself, which is why his roof is stuffed and that's probably the least of his problems down the line . . .

I think he just looks a tad sad (and sunburnt) and he will end up paying much more just to get it finished to stop his family leaving him!

I assume that's exactly where he got the money from. By not spending for a while.

His website about the house is also very good.

Rob, that wasn';t sunburn that was blood pressure!

The guy was brave in thinkking he could do it all himself, but he was mad not to have a project manager - then there's only ONE bloke to bawl out when the thing goes tits up, not a whole load of 'em.

And the roofers without the tools to do the job - tw@ts - my blood pressure would have gone sky high I think.

I'm going to cry every time I think of that birch roof getting more soaked.
