Woman passes test after 350 lessons and 21 tests
Discussion
A woman from Derby has passed her driving test after 21 attempts and 350 lessons.
Belinda Harrell from Spondon, has spent more than £6,000 in five years on lessons and tests.
After finally passing, her husband Chris gave her a new Peugeot 206.
The 39-year-old began learning to drive in October 1998 and had as many as six lessons a week before her first test in February 1999.
She failed that because she hit a kerb during a three-point turn, says The Sun.
She said since then she had failed on "everything it was possible to fail on."
"After all the disappointments I've had it was fantastic to pass," said Mrs Harrell.
Now thats what I call dedication

Oh MY GOD!
Whilst I applaud her dedication, surely someone should have said to her "this obviously isn't for you" here's a tricycle / bike with stabilisers / etc.
I have this nagging doubt that the only reason she was passed was the examiner thinking: "If I fail her again, I WILL be seeing her again soon, and have the cr*p scared out of me again, if I pass her, what are the odds of ever meeting her on the road...."

You have to wonder whether it was ability, or simple statistical probability that eventually get her through.
(monkey + typewriter)time = Hamlet. Sorry to be cruel to the woman but she is the reason God invented buses
5 attempts max should be allowed, if that, unless there are extenuating circumstances. I reckon this should apply pretty much across the board to everything else in life, although I am sure you lot can think of some perfectly reasonable examples where it shouldn't.
Although having said that, maybe because she has had so many lessons and so much practice, she will be a better driver than any one of us

LOOK LISTEN & TAKE HEED
Look at this motor car. A BEAUTY, isn't it? It's got twenty years happy motoring ahead of it - or has it? Here comes a woman!
Which side's she getting in? The driver's side! Oh, dear - the WRONG side.
"Gosh! What lovely comfy seats!"
Yes, but this isn't a DRAWING room, my dear. It's a complicated motor vehicle, based on the principles of the internal combustion ENGINE. A machine FAR too complicated for you to understand.
"But I know about embroidery and kittens - won't that suffice? Oh, blow it - I'm going to have a try!"
"Oops!"
See? NOW look what you've done. Your pretty little mind simply can't COPE with the motor car.
WOMEN: FOR PITY'S SAKE, DON'T DRIVE!

This highlights an interesting point.
Its not retesting that should be limited, its the standards required to pass the test that are at fault. As I have said on previous posts, I know people who are a danger to themselves and others but have passed there driving test.
I am talking about being able to drive at 70 on a busy motorway, being able to park etc etc.
It would also solve the problem of people taking 20 odd tests and passing - if it were more difficult it would take them 60 attempts and they would just give up!
