I’ve seen the future of our carindustry.
1 productionline where, based on 1 platform, 2 different brands produce 3 different types of passengercars in a countless number specifications. All in accordance with ‘the built to order principle’.
I’ve visited the NedCar facory at Born the Netherlands. It doesn’t matter: Volvo or Mitsubushi; S40 or Carisma or V40; Red or Blue / Diesel or petrol / Fully loaded or Basic. All on one single production line in, seemingly, random order.
Marketiong departments of Volvo and Mitsubishi order NedCar to produce a car and on the end of the productionline the car is handed iver to the salkes department of Volvo / Mitsubishi.
Now the Ford group start to work with a ‘shared’ platform for the successors of today’s Ford Focus / Mazda 3 series / Volvo 40 series it is a safe bet to predict that once production is started Ford’s, Mazda’s and Volvo’s will produced simultaneously on one productionline, nearest to their consumer market.
