Yes boys and girls, your most Dangerous Mouse will be living up to his name by taking on none other than the big man himself, God, at his place...

...and its all in the name of chaiiiiirrrity.

After the gracious bowing-out of Mrs Mouse snr (my mad Mum, for the uninitiated) due to long term injury, your hero* has (if you'll excuse the pun) been roped in to take her place.

The challenge will take the form of an abseil from the top of the Burwell Church tower, with any luck all the way to the grassy ground of the grave yard below, and no, I haven't already picked out my plot.

If you wish to witness this titanic struggle between ethereal force and earthly hero, please make your way in an orderly fashion to the church in Burwell, Cambs for around 13:30 hours on Saturday. It could be good for a laugh if I fall or alternatively, if I make it safely to the ground, you may show your patronage by the donation a small tithe to Comic relief.

Friends, wondrous co-workers, PHer’s or Rexer’s who maybe in the area are all called upon to come and spectaculate.

David Martin/Danger Mouse (which ever, this secret double life is enough to drive anyone off a church spire!)

ps: I apologise for the multipurpose nature of this message.
pps: For those who are confused about the name, it's a web handle with my initials ever so cunningly concealed within.... yes, I know it's sad.

*obviously.

Oh, I get it. I thought you meant Heaven!! I was wondering how you were going to get there - or, more correctly, how you were going to get back again!!

Good luck for your abseil, Mouse!

According to my mummy there is only one way back from his place further away, and the best person to explain that at the moment is living at your house...

... thing is I doubt he could tell if he wanted to at the mo'.

How is the little guy anyway, and more to the point how are you doing? I hope you're getting some sleep.

In this weather, you want to be getting the babyseat into that mean old Griff, if you see what I'm saying.

Thanks for the luck!

You'd be surprised what he can tell you, actually. We often have long discussions on his general dissatisfaction with the promptness and quality of meals. Today we're having a lively debate on the trials and tribulations of life in general and warmer weather in particular.

That said, though, I'm all for reincarnation. The only problem is, if all the knowledge you amass on earth is then retained, what good is it to you if you come back as a grape or something??

We're all doing great, thanks! Sleep isn't proving to be much of a problem because we've got him reasonably well trained to sleep at night and just wake up for one feed, but the daytimes are proving to be a little more - ahem - interesting because I'm back at my desk and Michael keeps trying to offer helpful advice while sitting in his bouncy chair and watching Classic FM TV!

I'd love to, but no Griff for Junior. Nope, we'll wait until we've got something with a proper lid on it. Not that I'm planning to go visiting Him Upstairs myself for a while yet, but you know...

BTW, can you accept donations by post from those of us who won't be able to get to the big event?

only waking for one feed a night - luck, very lucky.

its the early mornings that used to drive me mad, when the little darlings insist on getting up and then go back to sleep after an hour
Marcos Junior had me up at 6.15 this morning and then announced at 7.45 "I tired Daddy"

Sorry to highjack your thread DM - good luck!

Mmm, I'm always happy to accept money through the post, but do you trust me, that's question?

I'm sure I can arrange for some photo evidence, then anyone who feels they want to, can support comic relief in my name...

...assuming you guys can be trusted of course...

Just tell me what you pledged on here, then I can make a list of virtual contributions alongside anything raised at the time of the deed,
that could work...

Would have been glad to come along and give a little encouragement.

"That rope looks a bit frayed!"

But.

PH5, Tankersley.

Good luck anyway.

"Are you sure that knot is holding?"

Well I'm still alive...

...in fact I did it twice in the end as I descended so fast the first that nobody caught it on camera.

Needless to say, that didn't happen the second time so I shall post a couple of pic's as and when I get them.

What a fantasic day!

Warm, bright and no wind. I wasn't expecting it to that difficult but even with half the village mums watching I dropped half the height of the tower in one bounce, SAS style, and didn't have the slightest pang of vertigo.

On reaching the ground I got an unexpected round of applause too...

To put the whole thing in perspective, people have been dropping off the church all morning, starting with our neighbour, the Vicar at 9:00am. Although apparently I was the first one who was sent straight back up because I came down too quickly.

I guess I'll be up for some far more hairy climbing this spring/summer just to get the old adreniline pumping, now I know that jumping off churches is just way too boring!

If anyone wants to virtually sponsor me in this, please make a donation to CR, and just post on here how much. The I can relay how much virtual money was raised... as mentioned below.

Oh and Mrs Mousesnr did do it in the end too*, so the village and CR have had good value out us Mouses this weekend...

*even though she goes into hostipal on Monday to have her ankle mended. I'm really hoping that the surgeon doesn't cross thread it again when he screws it back on.

Get well soon Mum.

Thanks Super-dooperFlid...

I'll pass your wishes on.

She didn't do any harm to herself doing the abseil, but she did smack me in the mush with one of her cripple-sticks on the way up.

There was not a lot of space on the spiral staircase leading up to the top of the tower. It was a strain on her elbows though (one of which, shockingly, is also slightly knackered up), but she's a fiesty old bird and nigh on jumped off the tower backwards once she got to the top.

She had the Op' early yesterday, already relieved to have been told by the anaesthetist that she would not be getting a nerve block this time, which was the bit she was dreading the most.

Apparently it is VERY painful.

She came out of theatre and already had the colour back that she hasn't had for months...

...but as Dr M pointed out, she was still off her face on morphine (is she rock'n'roll or what?).

She was dicharged this morning and is now convalescing at her sister's house beacuse there are no stairs there.

Maybe I'll take her lap-top round and get to look into PH, so she can find out what all the fuss is about...

With less than 12 hours notice I gained £29 of sponsorship. I don't know how much she made, but I don't think that was too bad.

Thanks again,
Mouse

Ps. If I get her on here it'll encourage her to get better quicker so we can take out the MG TF, S2K, Z4, CTR oh and the Cooper 'S' again, that she been whinging on about... especially as the sun has miraculously reappeared.

...yep, she does belong amongst us

Don't worry Dan, the mission is proceding to plan and the equipment is all still perfect working order.

Venom, I hope this means that will see more of you now that the fair maid has returned to the "Emerald Isle". It was good to see you last night.

Will you be joining us at the weekend for the ritual monthly Jail-baiting, or does the event hold too many poinient memories for you?

Don't worry about your flexible friend, I'm sure the lady will forgive you in time....

...and I'll get you a beer in too, if you need it.
