I am looking for some video editing software that I can run on my PC. It needs to be easy to use (intuitive) and/or well documented, cost less than £100 and be able to run on a Celeron 1Ghz, 512Mb RAM PC (alternatively on my laptop - P4 1.7Ghz, 512Mb RAM).

I need to be able to download from Digital8 videocam (Sony) and to output to CD or VHS tape.

Anybody got any suggestions, I am looking at Video Deluxe 2.0 plus as a possibility, any thoughts on this or others?

I use Ulead Pro ver6.0, its pretty simple to use and does support VHS and CD copying, Also supports FireWire. Take a look around their website www.ulead.com

Good luck!

I use Pinnacle DV Studio, which I got from Comet of all places, at under £40, which contains the Firewire card, cable, and editing software. Seems pretty good value, and the editing software is easy to use and pretty quick, even on my archaic K6-2 333 machine.

Take a look here:

Thanks guys, I am downloading the free trial of Ulead Video Studio. I will give this a go and decide whether to buy it on-line.

I have seen mixed reports about the Pinacle product, both very good and very bad so I will hold off on that one at the moment.

I am new to this subject as well, but have been using Pinnacle Studio 8.5 which I like. I have also looked at Adobe Premiere which is supposed to be the dogs doddahs, but it is very complex.

Pinnacle is great, but if you want to trial the software, there is a video editing mag out in Smiths this month, with a DVD on the front cover and it contains a number of editing packages, utilities, tutorials and general step-by-step instruction on editing.

Thanks again, unfortunately do not have a WHS local (Budapest). Ulead download failed, I guess their ftp server was overloaded, the transfer rate dropped to less than 1Kb/sec before dropping completely. I will have to try again at a better time.
