It's difficult to credit the hypocricy of some people. We all know now that Short can't be trusted, all that eminates from her is attention seeking soundbite with no substance. Yet another example of "Noo Labour" - bluster without integrity. Wnackers the lot of them.

I'm appalled.

(And have been since 1997).

Funny thing is, if the left wrest control of the party from Tony's lot, Labour will be consigning themselves back into political oblivion. I think it ironic that the only votes TB can really count on tonight are those of the Conservatives - he must be wishing he'd joined the Torys.

Clare Short - not a good man in a tight spot.

Just more proof that Socialist scumbags can't be trusted, say one thing (for the propaganda effect) and do exactly the opposite (because it'll hit their own pockets!) When will Britain wake up? We're up to the backteeth in Sh1t and the scumbags won't even have the decency to resign!!!! Call in the execution squads!!!
Time we had our Bastille day.................but with politicians!!!!

Can never make my mind up about Short. In opposition I despised her. She seemed intellectually dishonest ... in the same vein as Tony Benn. Piss and piety in equal measure. But there seems to have been a transformation. In government I've had great respect for her candour and honesty. She has never been "on message", but similarly she has never given the impression she was self-serving. I think it is widely considered that she has been an effective International Development secretary, and has been both principaled and pragmatic.

It is not inherently dishonest or contradictory for her to hold the view that the US and UK have ballsed-up the diplomacy and yet stay on to run the overseas development dept in the aftermath of the war. She can either make a grand gesture now, or stick around and get on with the work of trying to rebuild Iraq after the fight. The UK's contribution to that rebuilding effort would undoubtedly be undermined if she left her position. No senior minister would take demotion to fill the role, and it is not a good time to shove some underling into that role just when effective leadership will be most required.

She must know that her decision to stick around is very, very bad for her image. It would clearly be more politically astute to do a bunk with Cook and wait around for Brown to become leader a few years down the road. Choosing to stay on and take the flack is actually quite brave.

Prescott did make me chuckle on the Today programme - said he had to "look up Lord Hunt to find out who he was". Dislike him as I do I still have to admit it was a great put down from the big man.

Which is quite ironic given that a bar steward is EXACTLY what the fat lying toerag used to be, on Cunard liners I believe...there's a Tory MP that always shouts 'Mine's a gin and tonic, waiter' whenever the lard-arsed git manages to lever his bulk off the bench...

Clare Short to support the Government

Clare Short has announced she will support the Government in the vote on Iraq and that she is not quitting.

But she says she remains "very critical" of the way the crisis has been handled.

Ms Short said: "I know I will be heavily criticised for my decision and many people will feel I have let them down. But I am doing what I think is right in the circumstances which we are now in."

In a statement, she said until today she had believed that she should quit, but had now decided that resignation would be "cowardly" as she would be making no contribution to the problems ahead.

"I know I will be heavily criticised for this decision, but we must all do what we think is right in the circumstances we are now in," she said.

So now she thinks Cook is a coward for having principles (however misguided) and sticking with them. However, its ok to knife your own cabinet and leader in the back, then demonstrate a complete lack of substance by failing to honour the pledge you made. This woman has zero credibility, and if I were Blair I would not keep he in a position where she is privy to information of importance to national security. She has to go now, at Tonys request.

"Careless word cost lives" was the expression in the WW2.

I think you'll find that's Nicholas "Fatty" Soames. When it comes to being a lard arse I think Fatty knocks two jags into a cocked hat every time.
