Kit cars - MR2 donor
Discussion
The time has come to bust up my Mk1 MR2 and turn it into spare parts. The main reason is that the bodywork is rusted beyond all hope of salvation, the windscreen is broken, and a few other issues.
However, burst cylinder head gasket notwithstanding, mechanically it's pretty good.
So I was thinking. Are there any kit cars available that would take a Mk1 MR2 as a donor for parts, especially the engine? Preferably a Caterham 7 -style, but maybe something else. Any suggestions?

Isn't the MR2 engine the 4AGE one? You should be able to put it into most kits, and as you know it is a good engine. I think our antipodean (sp?) friends use it alot in kits, as it is freely available. Trest of the mechanicals I think would need to come from somewhere else (ford?). Any other parts you could sell 'as parts'.
Locost, Fisher/Sylva have definately used it.

Don't know the engine code (I suppose I could look in the handbook!) but it's a 1.6 16v variable valve timing, revs to 7700, 126bhp. Nice engine, slick gearbox too.

You will need to investigate gearbox/prop etc, due to the change to front engine/RWD and also the wiring, but as you have seen (and liked?) the fisher fury/sylva/SSC stylus, there are several people who have done this, and could help. The factories are both supposed to be very good with help too.
I am sure it is one of the 4AGE based engine.
Go for it, good luck, and keep us informed!

P.S
If you haven't found them
www.sylva-sportscar-register.co.uk
and
www.clubstylus.org.uk
are both good sites.

The mojo was based on the XR2 engine, but I guess it could take an MR2 engine. At least it is in the same location! Still need other donor parts
