It was on BBC Scotland this morning that West Dunbartonshire Council will allow non-essential employees to take paid time off to participate in protests against the war. Decision taken by the hard left leader of the Council.

Now, whilst I'm all for people having the right to protest, giving public employees paid time off really annoys me - particularly as my Council Tax has just increased above the rate of inflation yet again...No bl@@dy wonder!

My council tax has just gone up by 30%! Perhaps I could have a paid day off to go & protest against that.

I think all the anti-war lot should be shipped over to Iraq and left in one of Saddam's torture chambers for 12 years, then we'll ask them whether or not they want to be liberated, or if we should just leave them there.

Didn't see the program, but are the council giving them extra paid time off (bloody outrage) or are these people using their paid holiday (fairplay, if they believe that strongly).

Andy.

I'll amend my previous post:

'Malingering torags' is what I meant to say.

Apologies to all those council workers actually doing a proper day's work.

No, they're definitely not using their paid holidays. The Council has said that if they are absent from work in order to attend protests, then no disciplinary action will be taken and no salary will be deducted!

From bitter experience I'd say the total man hours lost will probably only equate to a fiver anyway.

What is Non-essential anyway.

Edited to say that non-essential means anybody not directly involved with giving assistance to people in need, ie nurses, care workers, etc.

But if you happen to work in Finance, Housing, Planning, etc then it's holiday time boys!!

Pensions: I'm out'a here!... er actually I'm not, but I wish I was.

I suppose some smart-arse pointed out that if they weren't allowed to go that as they work for the government, the government would be curtailing their right to freedom of speech and hence be violating their human rights or or summat...

...and some dumb-ass/yellow bellied manager fell for it.

Nice precident. I suddendly feel the need to to express my self through the medium of crx-on-cambridgeshire 'B' roads by Proxes T1-S's,

Seeya!

Useless tossers.
