...just copy of me!
Drive home, and hear you Tamora's engine miss firing, then call dealer and find out that there's a possibility of no car available to borrow while it's in for repair, due to short notice, call the AA TVR assist who come out and try to fix it, well done to the guy, he tried his best to sort it on the drive.
He took the spark plug out of cylinder 6 and part of it was missing so assuming this is the problem all fear's of getting to work ok on monday dissapear, until the spark plug is replaced and nothing changes, SHI!T, so then it has to go to the dealer but he can't take it, phones up his mate down the road with a truck, 1/2hr later he come's, and a call to the dealer and they've managed to get a loan car up until Tuesday, after that then i'm told i will have to sort out my own transport!
Get the loan car, then receive a call from work to say they've smashed up a machine during the night, the most important machine in the factory that supplies Land Rover brake caliper's, the machine is going to be down for a week, if nothing's sorted out by monday afternoon Land Rover production line will stop on Friday, so rush down to AP (leamington) to try and get something sorted, no luck until monday morning, get out to the car to find one of the tyres flat, fair enough, get all the tools out to do a wheel change, but Locking wheel nut key is missing, at 17:15 the garage has closed, so go driving around to find a car the same make, knocking on his door very embarasing, can i borrow your locking wheel nut key? and the very kind gentlemen said no problem, only problem is the design of the key is unique to the car, so as you can guess i'm pretty much pissed off, so the car is left on leamington high street with a flat tyre tonight, and with the dealer's insurance, a £2500 excess is due if any thing happen's...
So i'm off to the pub in a bit to get absoloutely slaughtered, btw i only got the car back on wednesday night, because it's been in for warranty work. i know this is TVR, but it's six month's old and this will be the 3rd time visit back to blackpool for engine repair, if i'm to sell it i will loose £6000, remember it's only six month's old with 3000 miles!!!

Well things are looking better, a Chimaera is being sorted out while the Tamora is in for repair. And i've been to see a solicitor, to see what can be done to sort things out once and for all. TVR don't know yet, but a legal letter is on its way, but the guy said i have a very good case for an arguement, i could of been in a stronger position from the start when the first time the engine went bang, as i could of refused help from TVR and my money back or a replacement car, but i didn't know what was going to happen, but hey things hopefully will be sorted out soon...

Hi Pete,
How are you?
Well two days after i drove the car from the showroom (Kings) i went back to ask them if the normal running water temerature around 120 deg? They replied yes, that is perfectly normal, but unsure about their comment i booked it in for the 1000mile service knowing fine well that it will not have a 1000miles on the clock(four weeks later is the earliest they could fit me in). During their service the car wss diagnosed with a blown cylinder head gasket, so up to blackpool for four weeks and the use of a superb PT cruiser?? anyway car got back to kings dirty as anything with oil over every bit of alcantera, and none of the warranty things sorted out, so booked it in again(now two days later) and they cleaned it and sorted only one warranty issue, around 9 days later bearing in mind i had to run the engine in again, so no revving above 3000rpm! and i was sat in traffic, about 5 mins at a stand still the car burst out with steam and coolant all over the place, so another trip to blackpool! over the winter the car wasn't used that much, did about 800 mile total from November to February, so only short journeys. Then now i'm using it every day as i've changed jobs, 20 mile trip to work every day so the car has plenty of time to warm up, and the warranty issues were a joke to live with: Interior heater not working at all, ill fitting glove box, both front wheels with notable hairline cracks, both driver and passanger door not closeing correctly, which was catching the bodywork and scratching, 5 connectors under the bonnet hanging loose near the engine block and one near the exhaust! spliting rear window, one side with a 2 inch hole and getting bigger, and engine sounding "scratchy" at revs above 4000rpm, sometimes lower. so eventually got the car back last wednesday night, and driving home from Leamington on friday night and about 200yards away from my house the car made a bang a started to misfire, so i stopped the engine immidiately when i got on to my drive way, and the the story begin's on saturday morning as my first post describes.
To answer your other question, i'm involved with CNC Machine's currently machining Brake Caliper's, AP Hydraulics, we have 7 Machines, suppling a number of customers, mainly Land Rover, and I'm given the Job title of CNC Development Technician, basically a production manager, but working with all departments within the group developing products from a piece of paper into production. Good luck, what experience have you had? with which companies, products?
Regards, Chris.

Sadly it's a similar episode with TVR and my Tuscan that turned me into a Porsche owner.

I'd had a Cerbera before so knew what to expect but after the Tuscan spending 6 of the first 9 months at the factory I had to give in.

Solicitors tried but failed. Basically, I should have rejected the car the first time it went wrong and never given them the opportunity to fix it.

As ever, the factory couldn't care less.

In the end I sold it at a huge loss and also had a legal bill to boot!

This was two years ago so I hope for your sake that things have changed.

It’s a real shame as I love TVRs but could never bring myself to buy another one.

Good luck.

Being in the Porsche fixing and tuning game, I have to ask the question is it possible to shoehorn a BMW V8 engine into the Tiv instead of the Blackpool alloy coffee tables? I run an old E34 540 estate everyday, 289bhp 400Nm, 122000 miles and never missed a beat, tuneable to 325 I believe.

Just a thought for the day the warranty runs out and the engine lets go again.

Don't give up with the new car battle.

I bought a new Volvo convertible, which had to go back 13 times for repair - not just minor, at one stage, the gear linkages fell off!

Anyway, I kicked up a right stink - spoke to the local press and Top Gear and then went to see the Manager of the garage. Told him that this was completely unacceptable and demanded a new car "or else" ....

He was very apologetic as always and asked for the car back one last time. I agreed to this on the proviso that if it failed again, he would replace the car. He also agreed to this and I got it in writing!!!

Well, would you believe it, it broke again!

I marched back into the dealer, letter in hand and placed my new order. Granted it took some 4 months for the new one to arrive, but by the time of exchange, my car was 14 months old with about 12,000 miles!

New car is fantastic and I prefer the new colour too!

Hiya,

Sounds like you're having a nightmare, I've just done similar to Rob - Cerbera to 911 - but I think I was very lucky in finding a decent one, i.e. no major faults at all.

Even so, the level of main dealer support I got was sufficient to put me off what was a really great car. The thing that really made me laugh was the TVR mechanics making comments about Porsches being boring - perhaps they were referring to no unusual and unexpected mechanical failures which require sale of body parts to fund. Coupled with their inability to provide a fix to the simplest things and the way they have absolutely no concept of time or that you might actually need to drive the expensive car you bought ...

As for the newer models, TVR seem to go through the same routine every time. I had a work collegue with a Tuscan who had it up in Blackpool for 10 months of the first year of ownership :/

Best of luck with the Tamora, it would be nice to see some good working practices put into place.
