Threat to CCC's?

74 dbs
Christ on a bike could they make it any lower?
the Burgundy Battlecruiser with me at the helm produces more than that (I might buy a new back box now to wind them up)
Surely this will apply only to cars with aftermarket pipes rather than those that have stuck to the spec?
Either way it stinks

Yes read this and did wonder whether it would relate to cars that are supposed to be above that level, surely most V8 cars will be above 74Db. Mine reaches 120+ so Im F
d then
As long as common sense is applied and they only target the 'Max Power Saxo' brigade then it will be fine.......

WTF? You think we should have a blanket law, and you'll accept that on the condition that it is applied with "common sense"? Either a law exists or it doesn't. If we just give over all of our freedoms to the state on the assumption that they will be "reasonable" about it, what happens when one day they stop being "reasonable"?

...drivers of cars exceeding 74db will receive on the spot fines.

I wonder if it's possible for the driver to shout that loudly?

So, anything louder than your dyson and you're in trouble...

It's a control thing. We have allowed ourselves to become governed by people who believe that their elected position provides them the right to exert control and gives them the right to raise incremental taxation to fund the apparatus that empowers their control (proliferation of CCTV, road pricing, identification cards, using satellite imaging to regrade properties for council tax, etc...the list grows every day).
As a nation we are on a downward spiral where every tom, dick and harry in central or local government feels it's their right to impose control and have the people pay through extra taxes for the technology to facilitate it. They use weasle-words about "global warming", "civil and social responsibilities" and other sactimonious clap-trap to justify themselves and their insidious actions. It's got to stop. Now
Good lord, are there really not far more pressing issues our government ought to be investing their energies in? Health, education, homelessness? Err...maybe not, bit too tough, lets add to the growing list of tiny issues which indicate a semblance of action, but in fact shore up ever more the foundations of the nanny state.

I've had the perforated pipes cut out from my Tiv and straight through pipes welded in.
Where the f*ck am I gonna find find replacement perforated pipes to stick back in if this becomes law?

Dont bother
Stick with what you've got and become an anti establishment rebel
I might modify my pipes just for that reason

It's not quite as black and white as a blanket limit for all vehicles, as it depends on the registration date amongst other things. Prior to 1996 I don't know if there was even a specific limit. MOT testers were supposed to fail vehicles if the exhaust was considered louder than would be average for the model. In 1996 the limit of 86 dB was introduced. It changed again in 1999 when ECWVTA was brought in to 74 dB, but again there are exceptions. Cars already on sale then were allowed to continue to be sold until 2003. Unless they only target nearly new cars I can't see that it is going to be easy for them. And anyway, there aren't any police anymore. Look how many people have illegal number plate spacing and fonts. There are so many people breaking the law and so few enforcing it that it's pointless, and you can see why people just carry on anyway and take the chance. And the few traffic police that there are round here don't seem to work outside of 9-5 Monday to Friday. Until they make the noise level part of the MOT test, it's a bit of a non-issue IMO.

well put... the carbon fixation of politicians of all colours is scarcely believable.
Luckily it doesn't work like that. Here's what one looks like:
www.bksv.com/pdf/Bp2014.pdf
It has to be done when stationary and a specific procedure has to be followed. In other words, it's likely to involve more man hours than the police want to provide for traffic enforcement (i.e. more than approximately zero). The cost of the equipment is probably why it's not part of the MOT test. They might do the occasional spot check but I can't see it being more than that.
